mikeymike Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) Hello we currently use vnc to view / remote to other pc's. Is there software i can use to send messages to a pupil when they are logged on i.e stop trying to search for proxies haha Edited November 26, 2008 by mikeymike
WithoutMotive Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 We have the Messenger service disabled on most of our workstations. Following on from the OP's question, is there any software out there that doesn't need installation on workstation and yet can still send messages when the Messenger service is disabled?
Bezwick Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Why dont you just re-enable the service through group policies? We have the Messenger service disabled on most of our workstations. Jack Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Open a paint window and painstakingly draw your message out in freehand!
cromertech Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 We have italc in all suites here so you can send a message by right clicking on the screen in question. Pops up in a nice little box saying "message from admin" or "message from teacher" Also means if they fail to comply we can lock their screen or take a screen shot for evidence.
Teth Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I generally find you need to take the screenshot / video first because the first thing they do when you lock or message them is hit the power button

cromertech Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Not if you make the power button do a standby instead. All is preserved on screen as it was when you press a key on the keyboard
WithoutMotive Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Why dont you just re-enable the service through group policies? We don't enable it because kids sent each other messages using it through hyperlinking in Microsoft Word
matt40k Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 We don't enable it because kids sent each other messages using it through hyperlinking in Microsoft Word Sounds like you've got some clear kids, you could use GP Software policy to get round this, just don't think it will work as it'll block your messages. Might want to look at single user license for Dameware. You can also lock the keyboard\mouse with it too
mikeymike Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 so can italc be downloaded to just the server or needs to be on all workstations??
Domino Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 so can italc be downloaded to just the server or needs to be on all workstations?? if only there were some way of searching the internet for a product or phrase.... www.google.com
Little-Miss Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I found in my last school that knowing we were keeping an eye on them became a game to the students.
alan-d Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 if only there were some way of searching the internet for a product or phrase.... www.google.com You've been working in schools too long :D
EduTech Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 We have looked at LanVeiw 3 and also iTalc All do the job very well.. But then went and brought NetOp James.
sippo Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We play the same game here. Banning them for not following the rules usually means I win. and find we the most hated people in the school. Its such a cruel world!!
mikeymike Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 if only there were some way of searching the internet for a product or phrase.... www.google.com its either my newly tech inexperience of the job or im just completely blind but i did try to look on the italc site to find out
