moggy Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 (edited) Just debating when to do the SIMS update. Does the absence of any posts mean it's gone well or no-one's tried it. Any experiences? Edited November 11, 2008 by moggy Forgot the SIMS bit
SteveB Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Just loaded it up here. All fine at the moment. Get ready for the calls re Meal Types tho
glensc Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I've just had a look at the change documentation and can see no mention of it being the long promised ( for November ) .msi version. Am I missing a something?
Jamman960 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I've just set it up on our test server ready for some onsite training today, everything seems to have gone ok. I've not heard any mention of plans for sims to use MSI deployment
Simcfc73 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Installed it this morning, all seems dandy.
matt40k Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 SOLUS 3 is suppose to have .msi packages or such. Look at the roadmap powerpoint. Also heard they might intergrate into Outlook which makes sense really. If you have SLG2, Partnership Xchange, Dinner Money your pretty much stuck. At least till the new versions come out. SLG2 is Weds, PX is Friday, Dinner Money 7 is BETA only at the mom. New feature, Alerts (think Outlook Tasks)
glensc Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I've not heard any mention of plans for sims to use MSI deployment My miss memory, looks like first quater of next year and I'd (miss)remembered the dates for field testing as the relesae date. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/10114-sims-msi-5.html#post210402
D4RREN Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 you have to install it because of the Census in January. plus it has a few extra features within this upgrade
enjay Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 you have to install it because of the Census in January. But what we don't have to do is install it now - personally, I like to give Capita a few days to realise that it is broken, recall it, fix it and republish it before I do any SIMS updates. Pessimistic or realistic? You decide!
TechMonkey Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 But what we don't have to do is install it now - personally, I like to give Capita a few days to realise that it is broken, recall it, fix it and republish it before I do any SIMS updates. Pessimistic or realistic? You decide! I'd call that optimistic. You left out at least one more recall and 2 patches to sort introduced problems released days after.
matt40k Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Wouldn't be that harsh... but yes... wait, let some n00b\people with good support do it. Find the bugs, then wait for the patches to be written to fix them. Yes you need AT least Nov for Jan Census (money), BUT, you can wait for Dec. Personally. You have no reason for Nov yet, unless you want the Alert thing. Wait.
Sylv3r Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 We haven't had it sent through by our LA yet, but I won't be installing it until the SLG2 Novemember release is out.
EduTech Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Ok i am not a noob.. :| well at least i dont think i am lol. Anyway, installed Nov Update this evening.. updated no problem, could log back into SIMS once update had finished. So see what happens tomorrow.. will let you guys know if we have any problems. we shall see! If it does get really bad.. we have a back up of the VM before the update so if we needed to we can go back to before the update was added Will keep you posted James.
kmount Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 It's going on first thing tomorrow morning. Will come back with any issues.
m2d2 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Well I installed it yesterday. SIMS itself appears to be OK but we have had some issues with PARS and bulk entry screens. TASC software has released a couple of updates 311 yesterday and 312 today. 311 is now the minimum version for use with SIMS Nov 2008 Why did they have to tie PARS.net so closely to SIMS:mad: Updating SIMS wasn't quite so traumatic with PARSql
seacider Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 November:eek: We have not got all the laptops from the staff to finish the August update yet:(
matt40k Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) Just run SIMSPERM.bat for there AD group then let them moan each time an update happens about how slow SIMS is. Update: The Census manual is incorrect, update is avalible on SupportNet Edited November 13, 2008 by matt40k
dhicks Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Just debating when to do the SIMS update. Anyone else just get an email announcing "SIMS 2008 11a November Main 2"? -- David Hicks
Jamman960 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Anyone else just get an email announcing "SIMS 2008 11a November Main 2"? -- David Hicks Haven't had the email yet, spotted this on supportnet tho: SIMS 2008 November Main Release 2 I’m pleased to announce that the updated November release is now available for download. It contains fixes for the following issues * Lesson Monitor - Take Register - Attendance and Behaviour cannot be recorded for multiple students * Tracking Grids - display issue * Assessment Manager - unable to save on a marksheet that has more than one teacher. Those customers who have already taken the initial November release can choose to upgrade to the updated revision (SIMS 2008 November Main 2) via SOLUS as normal. SIMS Learning Gateway 1 Customers: If you took the original November 2008 release then the schema number to add is 3.61.502 against schema directory 3.61.501
EduTech Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 WHAT! I can this causing me problems.. the Main1 seemed to go so smooth *no issues as of yet* They have to do it everytime
enjay Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Anyone else just get an email announcing "SIMS 2008 11a November Main 2"? Yes, I got that too - the notification would have come directly to us as we're independent, for others it will have gone to their LEA. So, to the LEA-supported people, if you haven't yet installed November, wait for the update to be released. I think this proves my earlier point beautifully about why I wait before installing :-)
kmount Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Someone had to install it for the issue to be noted and for you to benefit though.
