mac_shinobi Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Found this when I was on the SIW website as it was advertised on there : Free hardware inventory and software inventory for windows networks Was just wondering if its any good or if anyone has used it and what there opinions are ?
cromertech Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) I haven't used it but i have a similar program that does the same things It can be found here Very useful tool to have save me noting down the serial number of every networked machine when purchasing new equipment. Just had to add the projectors and whiteboards to it and it's fully functional audit software too. If you don't mind the adverts it will integrate with active directory too which is something i don't think the free version of lansweeper will do Edited October 20, 2008 by cromertech 1
krisd32 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I can also recommend spiceworks. very good piece of software and even better cause its free!
heckle Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I have a setup where i am using XAMPP and OpenaudIT to perform hardware and software inventories. I have it run as part of the logon process. I was using Spiceworks but decided I wanted something where I had access to the information and not another outside source. apache friends - xampp Open-AudIT
ChrisP Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 OCS Inventory (free) here.... OCS Inventory NG - Welcome to OCS Inventory NG web site !
Gatt Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Just started using GLPI here - it integrates with AD, and also OCS NG..
forcryingoutloud Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 OCS and GLIPI here too. Runs loverly and as it's installed as part of the computer startup settings, there's no way round it!
Myshell Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Hi guys, I've seen a few posts about Spiceworks here at edugeek & wanted to let you know that we have released v. 3.5. You can take a look at the release notes or download the latest version from www.spiceworks.com Some of the new features are: Activity Timelines Network Bandwidth Analyzer Multiple Dashboards Nagios and External Alerts SQL Reports, Graphs & Widgets PluginsBETA I'm more than happy to help answer any questions & would love to know your thoughts. Also, thank you to Chris Byers for letting me get this information to you
mac_shinobi Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 I have known about spiceworks for quite a long time and know its very good and have even tried it and quite liked it. Although when used on a network with hubs - is ridiculously slow ( obviously )
Netware Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Does spicework on a RMCC3 network? has anyone tried ?
plexer Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I currently use OCS NG feeding into GLPI. However asset management is an addition to MLH that Oz is working on using barcodes to track assets so I will be testing that as soon as I can get my hands on it. Ben
