Hello Guys,

Just a quickie to find out what Helpdesk software you use at the school.

I've used a few in the past and installed some like....touch paper, web centre, custom built one.

What ones do u recommend?

Thanks.

I use MLH and you can still get it for free if you can find the right part of the site with the form to fill in. I have no objections to paying for it however, as you then get proper support and access to updates. It's a great helpdesk system, with a whole host of useful features, and it just works!

Could you post a link to the right part of the site?

I asked about this because I have no budget, but just got quoted £75.

Looks like they changed it recently. The link in This Post from July no longer works, but in July it did, as I actually filled in the form and obtained a single download of the product for free.

Saying that, £75 is cheap as it is a good helpdesk system.

I have a query on this but it's a bit more exotic...

Because I'm working with more than one school I'm really after something that is *nix compatible and web based. Anyone in the same position got any suggestions..

I use a php script one called hesk. It uses a MySQL back end. It is a good little system really. Got no bells or whistles but it does work (apart from the fact that i seem to be the only on e who uses it).

You can find it here:

Hesk

I am in the process of looking to see if i can tart it up a bit as this seems to be the only thing that lets it down if you ask me, apart from the lack of report creation.

I used hesk at my last school, and heavily modified it including the ability to alocate jobs to people, writing a log table to track changes, and wrote some reporting functions into it. Was a very functional helpdesk. I also modified the origenal helpdesk scripts into an assets management system, and linked the two. My code was very messy thou as I was teaching myself PHP while I developed it, it was too much work to go back and re-author it all once I realised I hadn't stuck to any sort of decent standards when I added the modifications, so I stopped developing it and opted for My Little Helpdesk in my new school. AFAIK my last school still use my modified HESK install.
