  9. Hi Phan, We had AkhterSuite for three years before I started and it is awful. On the admin side the software is buggy and in some places even incomplete. On the user side AkhterSuite puts huge sets of login scripts and policies into play at login slowing even the fastest parts of the network to a halt. Also had trouble with the service and support. We had 3 Akhter maintained servers, on one occasion in particular the 'senior engineer' came to install some updates and add a hard disk to the raid array. What he actually did was install the wrong update which caused many problems - including users not being able to logon... and while this was happening he attempted to insert a HDD - what he actually did was pull out the one remaining working HDD, corrupting it. My predecessor also purchased many desktop machines from Akhter - about 30 now have had PSUs blown and have had to be retrurned, all because they had been incorrectly specc'd. All in all it was not a great expereince - but it may jus be with us.. if you would like further details of problems, feel free to PM me and I will pass on my phone number! Tom
  10. Yeah it does seem a bit over the top! It seems that WGA does check for lots of different scenarios though - so your RM tablet incident could be linked to using a leaked installation product key - but whatever it is, contactng RM should be a priority in getting this sorted out..
  11. We have had this issue, after contacting Microsoft I found out that you get this message if you are a schools license customer and don't install Windows XP Home before installing XP Pro. We though under the terms of the license you just had to own the original XP Home license , not actually upgrade from it every time you rebuild a machine. Unfortunatly all our laptop images are straight XP Pro.. d'oh!
  12. Hello! My name is Tom, i'm 19 and I'm an IT/Network Manager for a York Maths and Computing College. We have nearly 1400 students, 150(ish) staff, 490 pcs/laptops, 80 IWBs and 20something Macs. Server side we have 3 curriculum DCs and 1 admin DC, Firewall server and Caching server, and OSX server as well as our Exchange server. For t'internet stuff we have 2 web servers - 1 running the school website and 1 running the VLE, Wiki and Blog. We have (reeeealy bad/slow/unstable) broadband provided by our LEA which costs a fortune. The network is managed by my myself plus a team consisting of a senior technician, IT/digital media technician and an IT technician. Ooohh.. and the important stuff... we have a kettle, coffee machine, well stocked biscuit tin and a fridge in the office, with plenty of comfy chairs !
  13. Cheers, will do!
  14. Its not! I don't work for them at all... they just gave me a very good impression of the company. A saving of 2 and a half grand is well worth the praise, especially on my (now very) limited budget!
  15. Evening... Paperstone are a fantastic company if anyone wants (original) toner carts (and other general stationary). Max, one of the directors, managed to save £2500 off the nearest quote for our toner for the next few terms. Ignore the prices on the website as theese are retail not education! They are a relatively new company (they started just before I met Max at Bett 2004) - but are gaining lots of new customers all the time, but not surprised as they are extremely helpful. Contact details: Email: [email protected] Direct Tel: 020 7462 7796 Give them a ring (mention Tom from York, and they might send me some more free chocs!)
