ninjabeaver Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ....... you know every member of staff's password off by heart.
powdarrmonkey Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Lol, I could do the windows key, ghost key and office key by memory at one point.. fell out of practice though

Hightower Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ... it gets to 9 o'clock and you've already boiled the kettle 13 times.

Domino Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 .....the words "cost-effective, scalable, reliable solution" make you physically wince
bossman Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 You get great relief from taking the coat-hanger out of your mouth when you get home. :-)
ICT_GUY Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I could work out win 95 keys in my head* *not so difficult really since it would work if each two consecutive numbers added up to 7.
ICT_GUY Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ...you get a smug feeling when your sever cabinets wiring is all neat and colour coded, and you get upset about why the rest of the staff refuse to come and take a look.
tmcd35 Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) I could work out win 95 keys in my head* 11111-1112 (I'm admitting to nothing...) ----- (edit) Oops, I think that may have been the Office'97 on, still... Edited September 9, 2008 by tmcd35
Sirbendy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 11111-1112 (I'm admitting to nothing...) ----- (edit) Oops, I think that may have been the Office'97 on, still... Surely not...wasn't 12345-6789 one as well? I haven't got my "legacy software" CD pack on me today for a test. I can STILL recall Win95a/b/Win98/XP product keys. Shame I can never remember my damn card PIN.. I'd say you've been in the game too long when you can walk into a suite, and pick up the discord of one fan in 60 that's just starting to go unbalanced or dry. Or when you go out to a teachers car that won't start, see the text "Please press the "Start" button", and when that does nothing grab a spanner and do the "battery disconnect for 30 seconds, reconnect" routine and reboot the onboard systems. Funny thing is that's worked nicely the last 2 times..heh.
tmcd35 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 FAO hackers/crackers/15yo schoolboys everywhere (but not M$ lawyers, nothing here for you see, no nothing, not at all, honest guv)... Here are the serial numbers you need to get your software working

Off topic, were they newish astras by any chance? ...You know you've been a tech too long when miss the fact that the 8 PCs you have imaged and done software installs on don't have working mice because you can do everything from keyboard shortcuts... ...You know you've been a tech too long when you start working out the logic table for your dishwasher's controller unit when it doesn't work...
elsiegee40 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 ... when you diagnose the printed circuit board problem in your domestic hot-water/heating system and the Hard Drive problem with the Sky+ box... and then spend ages trying to convince the relevant engineers that you have got it right. What's the difference... they're just different shaped computers! (Maybe engineers' lack of belief is because I'm female )
tech_guy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 ...when you dream of killing the people you work with. (Only kidding!).
ICT_GUY Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 When my old microwaves keypad died, I took it apart and then made a new one out of a maplins black plastic box, a grid of 12 push switches and the devils own wiring at the back (there were only 4 wires to address the 12 switches, think along the lines of a hard wired, 4 bit binary input. All were individually wired, looked like spaghetti. I wish I still had a photo.
OutLawTorn Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 ...you get a smug feeling when your sever cabinets wiring is all neat and colour coded, and you get upset about why the rest of the staff refuse to come and take a look. and here i was thinking i was the only one that had this problem.... and to make it worse, the other techs didn't notice until it was pointed out to them You Know You've Been An ICT Tech' Too Long When... you can write end-user documentation cynically and still have it be acceptable for distribution to staff/students
SYNACK Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 You Know You've Been An ICT Tech' Too Long When... you can write end-user documentation cynically and still have it be acceptable for distribution to staff/students I so relate to that one You Know You've Been An ICT Tech' Too Long When... you can talk a user through 10 or more levels of Windows/Software configuration dialogue boxes over the phone from memory.
jimmy_2k Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 You know you've been in ICT Tech' too long when... not only do you have the keycodes to every software title ever released, but you have every special screwdriver and every type of cabinet/rack/server/disk box key in your tool box!
mac_shinobi Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 ... it gets to 9 o'clock and you've already boiled the kettle 13 times. When your work place has to get an automatic wall mounted water heater so you don't have to keep boiling the water for your cuppas
