We're seeing login issues with SIMS (local) today. I rebooted the server first thing, that fixed it. Then it happened again later on. Again, a reboot fixed. Happened again since, so I am looking now for the cause.

Users logged into SIMS are not affected. They can continue to work no problem. But new users can't login.

There are no errors; it accepts the password (and tells you if it is wrong) and then you just get the SIMS splash screen forever.

No clues in the event logs.

I have logged a case with SIMS but I am wondering if anyone else has seen this issue?

Confirmed with support as TooOld4This said. A DEX patch was applied to databases last night and it is a major incident. Turn off SIMS Data Exchange Service.

Load SIMS Services Manager and turn off the SIMS Data Exchange Service. Some catastrophic error must have occurred last night. You won't be able to use Next Gen, but at least you'll be able to load SIMS 7.

You are an absolute legend! Turned off and my frozen session immediately opened. Thank you 🙂

This is bad news for SIMS, though. They're already in dodgy territory by forcing us over to Next Gen for certain modules when the whole system is far from ready.

Thanks again

Just to echo, you are a total legend for this. Extremely irritating to come in this morning to find Sims not working for us. Don't get me started on Sims forcing us across to NextGen for certain modules, the system is a long way from being ready for proper use.

it's only been 12 years since they started migration, I'm sure they'll find a competent programmer soon, private equity sounds like the type of company that invests for the long term

Has anyone who has turned off SIMS Service Manager or even just SIMS Data Exchange Service within it received an email alert from SIMS Next Gen to tell you that syncing has stopped?

You can check if you are subscribed to email alerts here...

https://www.home.sims.co.uk/home/systemstatus

None of our admins are receiving any kind of alert from SIMS Next Gen when we stop SIMS Data Exchange Service.

FWIW Our emails are going to the named contact who signed a contract with capita in 2001. (not a typo), They haven't had responsibility for SIMS since 2005, and retired several years ago.  We tried getting it updated in 2021 but that didn't work so now we have a transport rule in place to catch them.

Interesting, what is the from address? I assumed each admin could sign up to receive or not receive the email alerts themselves.

I had this twice first thing this morning, got a timeout message, restarted the SQL service both times and its been OK since.

We encountered this issue and this thread was faster than ESS support in helping us to resolve so thankyou.
Have noticed that "Patch 31425 - Fix for Dex sync schedule" has been released.
But no word from support yet to confirm whether this is the proper fix or not, unless i'm missing some obscure blog post they've issued elsewhere.

We had the following update...

Quote

We have identified a fix for the access issues affecting SIMS7 and FMS6.

To restore service, please:

*Download and install '31425 - Fix for Dex sync schedule' patch from SOLUS.

*Once the patch has been installed, restart the SSM service.

*Log back in to SIMS7 or FMS and verify access has been restored.

If you continue to experience issues after applying the patch and restarting the SSM service, please contact Support for further assistance.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we worked to resolve this issue.

We applied it to two sites last night and both appear to be working again as normal this morning.

So you cant event escape their online problems with using the offline program .

They need to Start afresh from all this rubbish . create a new platform without using none of the old programming ( and apparent Hybrid working model )

Thanks For this Post though , sorted out the issue here

We have applied it to 21 schools so far and it seems to be working although I had PPG on the phone today saying they were investigating schools as they had seen some where the patch had been applied but the error still existed so same old, same old from PPG really

Anyone seeing issues today with local SIMS?

This morning SIMS was really slow for users and occasionally hanging for a couple of minutes. Noticed that the CPU usage was constantly high for sqlservr.exe on the server.

Rebooted, has been fine all day - now it is doing the same.

Just wondering if there has been another issue with the Services Manager or anything else?

I have come across this issue several times over the last few months.  We are now cloud based and use SIMS connected and unfortunately our support is with the LA instead of with SIMS directly so support is crap to put it politely.  That being said, I have found that by getting affected members to log out of their SIMS accounts and then sign back in is the quickest fix however we also have not been able to find the direct cause.

If you think your LA support is crap, you haven't experienced SIMS direct support, you can be waiting days for a response.

Haha yeah days to respond has got to be better than having no support at all though.  After 3 years we still have no idea who our support is in the LA.
