yeah the good thing about working in EDU has finally come around. Having the holidays. It would be very difficult to go back to corporate finishing at 5pm, working right through the summer etc. My old corporate job I remember one time I wondered when I could next take a full week off and it would have taken a couple of months to build up that entitlement for 1 week. Of course if I re-read this comment in 6 weeks on the first day back in it won't feel so good !

A few minutes ago I was at the staff party,  three beers in. Now  there's two 'emergencies' on deck,  due on a call with legal for one of them, and in SQL Management Console for the other one. 

 

Pretty sure both could have waited till Monday for action.

Recent jobs I have been looking at in Edu have been about 50/50 T/T plus something versus 52 weeks. If you are T/T only, hang on to it and hopefully the strong pension.

Yeah I think T/T totally  for a technician will be rare now.  For me it's a legacy from when there were 2 IT staff the NM who was full time, and then me.  When the NM left (and the school noticed very little difference...)  instead of a new one they increased me to TT plus 4 hours. Which is fine I'll have 2 weeks in this summer to sort Chromebooks out, server maintenance etc.

 

6 weeks off in total without going in once is a strange thing, when the 6 weeks ends almost feels like starting a new job again.

Now in the USA apparently they get 2 or 3 months off for summer. Finish early June and come back Sept. Now that must be a strange thing though US High Schools being much bigger and having much more going on I'm sure they have projects to do during their summers.

Working in Edu but no such thing as a summer break in last 14 years, lol. I miss the days when only 7 staff would be in at maximum (most were ground staff), no summer schools and was free to do big projects undisturbed with countless "it does not work" tickets, lol.

 

But hoping the rest of you get a decent break, an easier 6 weeks than the usual term time dash, projects run smoothly and a not too stressful start of term 🙂

Thanks, and the same to everyone here. It’s definitely been a busy year, so I hope you all get a proper break and manage to stay away from the support tickets for at least a little while.

Yep we now have HAF clubs, summer school, revision classes etc in the summer and holidays.

 

One of the few 'perks' in education was having the peace and quiet whilst undisturbed to get on with work in the summer, that seems to be getting less and less now every year.

It does feel like it. We've got a holiday club in both summer and easter now, but they're an external company, so once they're on the wifi they don't ask for anything and are pretty easy-going when I roll into the library to tell them the "wifi's" going down again.
