3s-gtech Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Because it's Bromcom - not only are their legal team on speed-dial, they're in a co-habitating relationship and bought a puppy together /parody /don'tsueme 4
TheRobins Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Just had some reports in the last 25 minutes of sluggish performance, and pages needing a few refreshes to work, any one else seen it?
simpsonj Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Our attendance team can no longer remove attendance marks. When they hit the space bar, it just highlights the entire column, and the attendance mark remains. I've tried it as an admin and get the same result. Not sure if it's related, but it was working fine last week...

Quote This is currently a know issue, I will be escalating this case to out software team to look into. The team will update you with more information as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can use the Bulk Attendance Update as a workaround: https://docs.bromcom.com/knowledge-base/how-to-use-bulk-attendance-update/ Please dot take extra care when using this feature, particularly with the parameters selected, as it can update a large number of records at once if not configured correctly. 1

Dos_Box Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Just a quick message to ask that you please calm it down everyone. By all means post about any issues you are having, but we ask that you be careful how you phrase things. In the balance of fairness, there have been many sponsors on EduGeek who have suffered various service issues over the years, and we all know how frustrating they can be, especially at critical times 2

Updates during holidays (unless urgent). 2. Patches done from home in the evening (unless urgent). I can't sit here and say Sims was more reliable than Bromcom.. when taking my hours in to account.. people like me helped make SIMs reliable. Plus we didn't have internet nor M365 Azure reliance to factor..... Just don't mention the times during the holidays it went down.. a patch didn't fix it.. then needed another patch... and another.. I think the max number was 6 or 7 in the end to fix it once. 1

That sounds like something to do with Exams, always remember patches on patches for exams (oh and census before they made it that you could just import the fileset)

From ScoMIS support: Bromcom are aware of the issue and this workaround has been suggested that can be used you can use via the Manage Attendance page: 1. Set Date Range to Week 2. Set View By to Student 3. Select a specific student 4. Tick Show Amend Daily Attendance Buttons 5. Double click the arrow button next to the session Double-clicking the arrow will open a pop-up window, allowing you to select any attendance code from the dropdown list, including the blank (" ") code. Please take care when making changes to ensure the correct sessions are being updated. 1

We did ours during school holidays, as out-of-hours wasn't paid or reimbursed in any way and wasn't appreciated anyway. We had great support from the SIMS support company at the time when we had issues. We could schedule patches to be done automatically etc. Less latency being onsite, we had RDP gateway access to SIMS if it was needed Don't miss it however one bit. Seeing how Bromcom/Arbour etc the interfaces in SIMS now seems dated, desite the various issues with ALL cloud services. 1
Mr.Ben Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I also remember a time when everything was on premise. The hours I spent updating and learning about: SIMS Exchange SharePoint LMS Systems (a few) All of which were critical to the school. Now all of these are taken care of by a team of dedicated engineers, allowing me to be better at keeping other systems up to date. Yes, there are outages for all systems, but the reliability of them vastly outweighs what we could achieve 15 years ago as small IT teams, and fact I'm not making these changes at 2am because something's gone wrong continues to amaze me. It's not like the work managing other systems hasn't increased (access control/CCTV/networks/firewalls/MDMs) - we need time do sort these now as well! 1 2

Yep the IT dept (I.e. me) is busier than ever, but the tools are so much more powerful now 1
TheRobins Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Latest update from Bromcom ---- We're making an infrastructure upgrade to the Bromcom platform on Saturday 30 May 2026, starting at 1am. This change improves performance, resilience and capacity by introducing Azure Front Door and additional UK regional infrastructure. This work forms part of the wider resilience programme we outlined during the March performance webinar. We expect no user-visible disruption. Service URLs are not changing, and most customers will not need to do anything. Do I need to take action? Please forward this email to whoever manages your school's IT or network — they are best placed to confirm. You'll need to act before 30 May if any of the below applies to your organisation: Outbound traffic is restricted using IP allowlists (rather than domain names) Local DNS caching is used on your network You have your own SMTP server with IP-based allowlisting for inbound mail from Bromcom If none of the above apply to your organisation, no action is required. If any do apply, please follow the link below for guidance on what to do before 30 May: https://docs.bromcom.com/knowledge-base/how-to-manage-the-move-to-azure-front-door/ Support If you have questions about the change itself, our support team is happy to help clarify what's involved. Please note that we're not able to configure firewall, DNS or SMTP settings on your behalf, those changes will need to be made by your IT team or provider.
synaesthesia Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 Just got that - fingers crossed it makes a massive difference. It's not nice always seeing the same problem come up for any supplier and less so when it has such an impact on the operational aspects of a school like an MIS. None of them are perfect, but when only one constantly crops up it doesn't look great.
