Redstor vs Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup

Hi all,

I'm looking at a new Cloud to Cloud backup as our existing option has doubled in price, from what I've seen Redstor and Barracuda are the two big ones.

What do you all use and which would you recommend?

Druva currently but will be looking at a solution for both on site and Cloud at the end of the year.

Does it have to be cloud to cloud?  We do Cloud to site using Synology. This is a one-off payment for the hardware, so generally beats any cloud system due to no subscription.

 

We do have site to cloud as well but we don't duplicate any backups, to ensure we don't have a backup feedback loop created!

They will be an option when we look, we've only just signed for a year. But their site to cloud stuff is very expensive, so trying to get everything with one provider might mean leaving.

@TechMonkey We are getting a synology but trust want cloud to cloud as an extra backup

We use Barracudas for C2C mostly works fine but I do find the recovery console pretty clunky.

How much space do you have on your NAS vs what your using the cloud?

@Rob_D I've ordered 48TB worth of storage, in our cloud we have about 6TB in total currently. I should be good for a while! (Hopefully)

Use Redstor here and education price is dependant of number of students.  Easy to set up and restore files.  Would recommend but not sure how much competitors are now but we pay around £1,800

MS Admin is reporting 30.82 TB across Exchange, SharePoint and OneDrive.  Our Synology has 26.1TB and is currently using 15.8TB, with 6 bays free on the NAS. Touch under £6k which was about at most a couple years of what we were being quoted for C2C.

 

Our Cloud backup is provided by Wasabi, through AutoData.  £36 a month for 5TB, which covers us for onsite.

We have recently started using the Redstor Total Education Bundle to backup our Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. We went for the Redstor product as it covered what we needed (and more), and for us the pricing was so much better than anything else we looked at.

 

Redstor has pricing brackets based on the number of students (we fall into the 71-200 price bracket, and works out good value for us), rather than the total number of accounts you need to backup.

 

The good thing is that it includes various products for the one price, so as well as the Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, you can also backup any servers, endpoints, Azure VM's, Google Workspace should you need to as well.

 

I did think that Keepit and Barracuda offered a bit more on the Intune device backup side in their Entra ID backup products, but the much lower cost of Redstor and the fact that it supported more products in the one price swayed it for us.

Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud user here. I inherited the setup, which is part of Barracuda Essentials and includes Email Gateway Defence and Email Cloud Archive. We very rarely have to use the Cloud-to-Cloud restore, but it works well enough for our needs. The new console seems to work better than the old one, but you have the option to switch between if you prefer one over the other. We did look at Redstor when our backup was due for renewal, but I wouldn't want to give up Email Gateway Defense, or the Intrusion Protection and Incident Response that we also have. We are a Microsoft 365 school - if we'd been Google, we may well have opted for Redstor. The only negative on the on-premises backup (for me) was that it couldn't backup Virtual Appliances, as it relies on an agent. That wasn't a deal breaker - I could have sorted something, but not ideal.

Moved away from Barracuda to Keepit this summer. Very impressed and interface is much smoother. Got mine from Phonenix Software.

Question for those currently backing up Google - what are you using, and how does it handle Google Classroom? We have a lot of coursework that "lives" in Google Classroom, and so there is pressure from exam board regulations to ensure that all exam/courswork is backed up. The providers I've been looking at don't seem to specify Classroom, only Drive so not 100% if that would work.

We're an M365 school, but I can see in my Redstor dashboard that it does have a Google Classroom backup option, no experience to tell you what that contains, though.

Only use it for my M365 Tenant which is easy to setup and restores are simple.  Picture attached of the products you can add for Google which includes Classroom.

How are you finding Druva?

 

Currently looking into them for my hybrid workload backup. They seem to be ticking all the boxes for me as being the closest to Veeam without buying 20 different product modules and their on-prem agent backup and restore looks a lot less "fisher price" than Redstor.
