BKGarry Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Dear All, If you have automatic updates on for your apps, I would say turn them off ASAP, we have had to contact our support people for our mac devices as Logic Pro 12 seems to break licensing per device via the app store, with this issue They have had to make a PKG version of 11.2.2 and roll it back for us, watch out for this one 1
DalekSec Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Just in time, as Apple as they just announced their 'Creative Studio', how.... fortunate
thimon Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Urgh, we’ve just had a report of this. Thank you for flagging
Gongalong Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Is it just Jamf managed machines that are affected? We've got Logic and Mosyle here.

Not sure on that one, thankfully we have a good third line support with our suppliers so they sorted it out with a PKG of an older version 1
Gongalong Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Is the issue that Logic has updated and then fails to work with the volume license? I could see that would affect Mosyle as well if it's not caused by the MDM.

Gongalong Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Eek! I've warned our Music department and switched off app updates. Thanks for the heads up!
Areku Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) Can confirm this happens with Mosyle. Got a call from music in the last hour... half our machines have taken the update... now not licenced. (but weirdly some still have 11 as well as 12.. 11 work, 12 licence fails) Oh and just turned off app updates to save the rest.. Edited January 30 by Areku 1
thimon Posted January 30 Posted January 30 We’re managed by dataJAR. They’re saying there’s nothing to be done, that we have to wait for Apple to issue a fix.
Jamman960 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 We're also with DataJar, fortunately 11 of our music Macs are still on V11 so we've paused updates. They've said as its a store app they're unable to roll back Many of the solutions mentioned online seem to revolve around logging in with the apple ID used to purchase but as we're using VPP/device based licensing none of those solutions are going to work for us, I assume most other schools are in the same position
Areku Posted February 2 Posted February 2 turns out you can copy Logic Pro 11 (the logicprox.app folder) from one machine to another and it will work. licenced, only thing you need to do is update the file association. (I did have to compress it to a zip to copy it, then extract on the new machine)

Ru JAMF Composer capture new state, install latest logic or whatever version close capture and deploy as PKG.

(I did have to compress it to a zip to copy it, then extract on the new machine) We were thinking of doing the same, but dataJAR / Jamf support mentioned the following... Quote Unfortunately, this is not allowed on App Store apps for licensing reasons so I can't support it. Further, we deploy the apps via VPP license and a unique license is assigned to each device - this is likely to break.
thimon Posted February 2 Posted February 2 We’ve found that if you get the below message, you can move it to the very edge of the screen and use Logic normally. From testing we can open, make a project, save it, open it back up, etc. 2
FragglePete Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Just came on here to look for a solution myself as I too have experienced this issue with Logic Pro. Our setup however is the Mac is on Intune. Thought it might be the VPP token or something had expired, but it all checks out. Even updated the Mac to the latest version. So, Apple have stuffed it and we've got to wait for a fix ? We now only have the one mac in the school, as our Music department insists on their technician using Apple and Logic when no one else does. Bonkers. Pete 1
mcolbourn Posted February 3 Posted February 3 We have just found ourselves with this issue our Music department has just reported tthat they cannot open Logic 12, I have blocked the update now but Ia ma sure about half of our macs are now on it 15 hours ago, thimon said: We’ve found that if you get the below message, you can move it to the very edge of the screen and use Logic normally. I am going to take a look and see if I can get this screen to appear.

Is it worth uninstalling it and seeing if InTune will reinstall and resolve the issue ? Pete

We’re managed by dataJAR, so perhaps their setup / install of the app is slightly different to others?
FragglePete Posted February 6 Posted February 6 So there is an update that now fixes this issue: Logic Pro for Mac release notes - Apple Support Quote New in Logic Pro 12.0.1 Stability and reliability Resolves an issue that prevented Logic Pro from launching on MDM managed systems or on individual systems not connected to the internet. However, not sure how I can get our Mac to update. It's showing an Update in the App Store, but doesn't allow it to download with any account as it's managed by InTune. I'm hoping it's just a case of leaving it and it'll update itself in the background. Pete 2
Gongalong Posted February 6 Posted February 6 We've got Mosyle, and I gave up with trying to understand when they update. I don't think it's Mosyle's fault, it's just down to when MacOS requests the update, presumably involving the app store as well.
Gongalong Posted February 6 Posted February 6 For those willing to test, it would be really useful to know if 12.0.1 fixes the issue? Our iMacs are running unsupported MacOS 13.7, because we couldn't afford to replace and are now waiting for the new Mac Mini to be released (and hoping it isn't crazy priced!). None of our Logic's updated from v11, so I'm wondering if they won't update on this older version of MacOS.
FragglePete Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Finally got this resolved this morning - was hoping Logic Pro would automatically update, but it wouldn't. So, dragging Logic Pro to the Trash Can and then in InTune forcing the Mac the Sync got it to re-install Logic with Version 12.0.1 and the issue is now resolved. Pete 1

If it helps the advice we have states it takes about 18 minutes to update after Logic Pro is closed (jamf/datajar) 1
BKGarry Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 It seems version 12 relocates the sound library files, source: https://support.apple.com/en-jo/guide/logicpro/lgcp725c6d3d/12.0/mac/15.6 While this is a cool idea and means we can have one central sound library file instead of redownloading them all when reinstalling a mac, I have yet to find a way to centrally manage the location. It does seem to just work with multiple users, but clones it each time, not using any extra space on the local disk, but I this may affect some of you here.
