The ability to escape from screaming kids (not mine, for anyone thinking I'm a derelict parent) has been well used this "break". Played Submerged quite a calm game of quite exploration in which you play a young girl navigating the ruins of a drowned city. I got it and its sequel for under a fiver, a price point they regularly hit. 1
Hoyt Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 Not exactly single player but during break I tried to get back into FFXIV. I do most things solo but when I get stuck the Novice Network in the chat window is very helpful. I like that I can play it on console and PC depending on where I feel like being in the house. The only problem is it doesn't carry everything over from one system to the other very well. If I create another job class on the PS5 it doesn't automatically show up on PC or even the old PS4. I have to upload the settings and configs then go to the other system and download them, which sometimes takes several tries. I guess a small company like Square Enix doesn't have the budget to get their cloud save functionality working 100%.

I liked the original Outer Worlds (Spacer's Choice Edition) but reviews on the sequel haven't been good over here.

"Aggressively Ok" is a fair way of putting it If you liked the first one, you will probs like this one and i have mostly enjoyed what i have played sofar. It does punish you for straying from the (literal) paths, ie no hopping around a mountain or climbing down a Clift, or swimming. Skill checks are poorly done Very much a "get it on sale" or Gamepass game. It does not live up to Obsidians legacy 3

Project Zombiod - Fantasticly realistic zombie apocalypse survival game that's brutally challenging. Factorio Space Age - Top down, complex factory builder. Dying Light - Zombie apocalypse FPS parkour. 7 Days to Die - Zombie apocolypse FPS survival crafting game. Ostranauts - Rogue-like top down ship breaking/building game. Most of those are multiplayer, but i mostly play alone. Factorio is great with friends, and thats how I started, but mostly I play singleplayer. 7D2D is another one that is great multiplayer and I've run a few servers for a small group of friends, but I've logged nearly 8k hours since ~2018
itskdog Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Not much of a gamer, but recently got back into the Rollercoaster Tycoon games with OpenRCT2 (a community mod/reimplementation that fixes some bugs and makes minor tweaks to the second game and can take bits from the first game if you also have that on your PC), and finally got around to getting Kirby and the Forgotten Land (somehow buying new at Argos was cheaper than getting it 2nd Hand at CeX!)
ICTDirect_Dave Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I always forget to mention this game, but Stellaris is right up there with my favourite single player games of all time. It is grand 4x strategy on a galactic scale, endlessly replayable, beautifully constructed, supported with so much DLC since its launch that its essentially a whole new game at the point. You have full control of your starting species attributes as you step beyond your solar system for the very first time and each game you'll encounter different races with different goals. Stumble upon different wonders, threats and discoveries as you explore your galaxy. It is brilliant and you should play it, but be warned it will consums days of your life!

I don't know if you played Dying Light 2, I felt it was alright if a little jumbled in the kind of story they wanted to tell with the rewrites after Avellone was kicked off development, but I just finished Dying Light: The Beast recently and have to say it was a fun dive back into that universe, has left me very excited for Dying Light 3. It was obviously originally meant to be a DLC to DL2 but still took me around 30hrs to finish the main story.
Hoyt Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Last night I bit the bullet and got Clair Obscur Expedition 33 for the PS5. That seems like it'll keep me busy for a while if I can learn the combat. I have never been good at dodging or parrying anything in any game (was mostly an FPS player) so I'm still wandering around in the first area trying to figure it out. I can't remember if I mentioned it or not but the original Dragon Age Origins for PC is one of the best games I've ever played with tons of replay value. You can get the complete edition on gog.com cheap and nexus mods has some groovy graphical enhancements that are nice but not necessary. GOG.com is heavy into the preservation of old games so if you are thinking of any old DOS/early Windows games you'd like to pick up to keep they are the go to place. None of their games have any DRM in them and they have complete offline installers if that's what you want so you can back them up for safe keeping. Some of the better cheap surprises I've gotten over the years were from browsing https://www.loaded.com/ (formerly CDkeys.com) and sorting PC games by lowest price. Most keys are Steam or GOG and I've been amazed at how many great games I've gotten for less than five bucks. They have console games as well but the biggest and best savings are on PC. I got Outriders dirt cheap from them and probably put over 700 hours into it over the years (I think there are five different classes you can play). 1

They haven't released any additional content for it and it can be played online as well (especially the end game leveling), but with so many different classes and the biggest loot pool since Borderlands it seems to have endless replay ability for me to play alone. You think you've seen everything it has to offer until you try a new gear combination and a big enemy explodes when you barely wing him and there goes another rabbit hole. I think what made me stick with it was you can transfer some loot from your higher level characters to lower level ones to help boost them. When you do that the end game leveling really gets wild. If your new character is a different class you can sell or deconstruct that high level gear for currency and materials. They made the level cap so high I still haven't hit it after over two years on PC. I tried it on console and at first thought it just wouldn't play right with a controller because I was used to precision shooting on the PC. Then I realized that investing more in gear and skills instead of weapons made the console version play just as well but slightly different. I think the thing that may keep me from going as hard on console is those little gamepads cramp my hands terribly after a while. I wish some company would make larger controller shells for adult sized hands. I always though Microsoft had it right with their original "Duke" gamepads for the original Xbox. An adult sized controller for sure.

Do as you want really, go at the pace you want, just annoying that no matter how you nice you play it.. it's really hard to get everyone to play along nicely... so I end up being a war lord and defeating them all. The one game I would love to see an updated version. Preferred the space battles too compared to Stellaris + the cutscenes were nice.

I tried the first one for a little bit but got sidetracked. Finally gave Cyberbug 2077 a decent shot lately and have been playing that.

Hoyt Posted July 16 Author Posted July 16 On Playstation they have "remastered" versions of the original Black Ops (my favorite of all time - especially the multiplayer) and Black Ops 2. They are on sale now for $20 each and the DLC (which was four individual releases back in the day) for $10. The graphics are definitely improved, but I wouldn't say it is a complete rework from the ground up. I love the original Black Ops because you can play the multiplayer component offline and it has the same progression and unlocks as the online section, they are just tracked separately. I think the sale lasts until Aug 8.
ZeroHour Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I have been having a go of the new Black Flag on a steam deck (the asus one though) that my son has after he wanted to try it. Runs a lot better than I thought it would after a few tweaks although it does eat the battery. I forgot how much I liked the original black flag even though at the time it was not seen as a *proper* assassins creed game as it had boats.

ICTDirect_Dave Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I picked up FFVII: Rebirth when it was on sale last week. So far, the £15 has been well worth it! It is gorgeous! The combat has a similar feel to Remake, but with notable enhancements. The open world is suitably vast and varied. The terrain interaction is a welcome feature, as Remake did feel like you were on rails to an extent. However, everything having physical properties means you can move things around, and your party does have a habit of walking into a nice area with lots of boxes of produce that they promptly send flying everywhere as they walk through it all! Still, it's great, and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Rogueleeder Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I'm also playing the new Black Flag and really enjoying it on my Steam Deck. I know its multiplayer but I'm also hooked back on Star Wars The Old Republic which I'm just treating as a single player experience which happens to need internet. Love a good BioWare Story and I had only ever finished one of the classes and it runs really well on the Deck with a good control scheme.
