We've always bought LapSafe Mentor trolleys for our needs, the power cables are custom fitted inside depending on requirements and only long enough to plug into a laptop. They're not cheap by any means but we bought most of our 10 trolleys between 2013-2016 and still have them all. We have to pay to have the charging cables changed to a new model of laptop but that balances out because we're not buying new chargers constantly, otherwise they'll happily sell you spare cables for in-house repairs.

But its a school issued device, ergo, not theirs.

Typically I'll get a request from the DSL to sit with him in the HT office with two devices, one with staff access and another with student access. Then we can try and break the filter. Gotta say it never stops being awkward when you manage to get through the filter via some obscure search engine and getting a face full of porn, with the DSL beside me and HT behind me.

Been using these guys for the past year and they leave us a cage, we fill it with IT tat and they come collect. no muss no fuss.

We've had 5 screens fully replaced under warranty after they developed the fault mentioned in the original post, these were all bought in 2019/2020 and the fault started appearing within the last 2 years. Even those out of warranty repairs have been reasonable at around £380 per screen for the most recent two in the past year that have had the same fault develop. Don't see us changing to another manufacturer anytime soon really, the screens are reliable, the casting software just works and the free managment software is great for remotely changing things as needed and even using the broadcast function during a lockdown situation.

We're bringing our website back in-house after 10+ years of having it with an external provider, mostly because they wanted £150 per hour of dev time on little changes. It was really limiting our ability to adapt at times. I've taken it on myself on the condition it includes a pay rise and am making use of WordPress as the CMS and a pagebuilder provided by our shared web host. It should be more than sufficient for our needs and gives us the flexibility to do what we want, when we want as well.

We were lucky enough to do the switch before they released whatever update causes the SIMS system to completely lock out, I also read on here about some schools having their data outright deleted instead of just locked down but no idea how true that is. Your best bet is to make sure you have a snapshot of the server and the database and if you do intend to migrate away make sure to plan well in advance. Anyway, hello ESS customer support.

We've not not bothered with extended warranties on student or staff devices for probably 14 or 15 years now, we get so much damage to the keyboards or screens that anything we did get would likely be void within a few weeks. Honestly can't recall the last hardware fault on a laptop that wasn't just replacing the battery or CPU fan after a few years either and those are cheap enough.

I've been doing it this way since 2015 at least and while the students can still pick off the labels with enough effort, I find the adhesive is good enough after 24hrs that you really need to dig at it. Edit: Also, these labels don't rip, they can be cut and you'd think the lack of being able to rip them makes it easier to pull them off but it doesn't. The combined bond of material and adhesive works really well and I use them so much we get asked to print them for our science department to use.

iPads will stop installing newer apps after awhile, once they get to that point it's in the WEEE bin We don't touch android tablets as they're just too varied to manage to a reasonable standard in my opinion, I'd prefer using the money there on mobile windows devices like surface go instead if it must be a "tablet"

I don't know if you played Dying Light 2, I felt it was alright if a little jumbled in the kind of story they wanted to tell with the rewrites after Avellone was kicked off development, but I just finished Dying Light: The Beast recently and have to say it was a fun dive back into that universe, has left me very excited for Dying Light 3. It was obviously originally meant to be a DLC to DL2 but still took me around 30hrs to finish the main story.

We block all streaming for students as otherwise they spend the day doing nothing but procrastinating on YouTube/iPlayer. We leave it to the class teacher to provide the video content they need.

We use our Sophos XGS for both filtering and firewalling, Sophos endpoint with its own web filtering as a last line all connected to Sophos Central. Our monitoring is done by NetSupport DNA, logging all the things students type within their documents or the web and if a keyword is triggered it gets flagged, categorised in terms of risk and an email sent that informs the safeguarding lead.
