Personal Information

  • Biography
I am an experienced IT professional with a demonstrated history of working in the education industry. Skilled in Computer Repairs, Windows Deployment, Software Deployment, Troubleshooting, Digital Signage and Windows Server.

I Graduated from the City of Wolverhampton College with a Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing in June 2021.

From September 2021 to February 2024 I worked for a Trust of schools of 16 schools as an IT Technician for a Central IT Team, dealing with 1st, 2nd and 3rd line IT issues. Supporting 2 of those schools almost completely independently. I was awarded a certificate for resolving the most tickets in the past 12 months, during my time there. Whilst working at the trust, and alongside my day-to-day support, I managed and looked after the MDT and WDS deployment servers for all 16 schools in the trust, making sure all images were up to date and all servers were functioning as intended, as well as overseeing software deployment.

I briefly spent some time as a Nationwide Support Analyst for a large MSP from March 2024 till July 2024.

In September 2024 I joined a large secondary school as an Acting IT Technician, in November 2025 it was confirmed by role would become permanent.

Currently working as an acting IT technician for a large secondary school

  1. Thanks all. We decided to block the Entertainment category on SchoolProtect in the end. Which blocks the majority of these streaming services, anything not included we have blocked manually by adding the URL in on School Protect.
  2. Afternoon all, I’m looking for some advice on how to block age-restricted content on platforms like BBC iPlayer and ITV X without blocking the sites entirely. The issue came up after noticing some students accessing content rated 15+ or 18+. Students still need access to these sites for educational videos, documentaries, and other suitable content, so I’m trying to find a way to restrict only the age-rated material. We’re currently using LGfL and School Protect for filtering. Has anyone tackled this before or have any suggestions on how best to approach it? Kind regards,
  3. We've moved over to UniFi Protect—it's not the cheapest option, but it's miles better than Hikvision's IVMS-4200. We used to run two old coax DVRs and two IP NVRs. It used to take me 30 minutes to an hour to retrieve footage; now it takes just five minutes. The software is excellent. UniFi Protect also supports non-UniFi cameras, which worked perfectly for us. We currently have 84 cameras on site, with around 75% still being Hikvision. UniFi Protect can be accessed via the web interface or mobile app, and you can create user accounts with specific access—either on-site or remotely. You can also control which users can view which cameras. It’s been a great upgrade for us, and the feedback from staff has been nothing but positive
  4. I'd 2nd this. MDT is the way to go if you want something free and fairly simple. Good if you don't have Intune licencing as well.
  5. Webcam not working on the new version of Teams? It might be because a media feature pack isn't installed. Open PowerShell as admin and type DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Media.MediaFeaturePack~~~~0.0.1.0 and press enterThe PC will then install the media feature pack and need a reboot.
  6. I had a similar issue to this before. I ended up going to the driver page for the laptop. Downloaded the drivers I needed and then unzipped them using 7-zip so that they were in a deployable format. After that I made a separate deployment share, with just those drivers loaded into WDS for that share and the MDT images within it, and called the deployment share the laptop model. That seemed to work for us. However I was using WDS and MDT. I’m not too familiar with SCCM or intune so I’m not sure if it’s the same or not. Hope this helps.
  7. We had this with our G8's and G9's. I ended up updating the both ADKs to the latest versions and then loading the latest HP drivers into WDS and MDT. After this it seemed to Image 90% of the time. However I did notice there was less issues when installing windows 11 compared to 10. Hope this helps someone
  8. Hi All, I'm Josh, a former IT Technician for a trust of schools, now working at an MSP, but looking to get back into education as an IT technician again. Very handy with hardware repairs, digital signage, software deployment and Windows deployment. So should be able to help out on some of the threads
