This is what we do too. Running Xibo natively (non-Docker) was a disaster previously, as it broke if you looked at it funny. But in Docker? Its been solid for nearly a year now, gone through several updates without issue. Definitely recommend as an option.

Xibo in docker on two sites... Rock solid, but not a huge fan of using it, maintaining the content seems to be beyond everyone except IT despite training.

 

Yodeck free on the other. No complaints about usage, much more intuitive, the head maintains the content without input from IT. My only comment is that I've been through 3 pis and 5 SD cards in 5 years. It seems to eat them.

When we used to use Pis and similar units for this sort of thing, the log files seemed to be an issue with the SD card lifespan due to the constant writes. It might be worth trying to limit the amount of logging or send it to a ram disk if its not needed.

New to this and a bit curious about the setup you have (assuming you're talking about classroom displays that are used for teaching). Do you have something like a Pi connected to each screen? Is there automatic source switching, or do displays start on the Trilby source, then teachers have to change it to teach?

We have a wireless casting solution which allows us to embed a URL as the background of the device, We used https://player.trilbytv.co.uk (PWA) as the background, and then setup every room as a device as a player within trilby.

 

As our casting solution is the default option in every room when the screen turns on, teachers turn on the screen and it will display the TrilbyTV content with the room connection information overlaid (with the pin etc) so they don't have to interact with anything else.

Old thread bump. We are currently have 3 screens which run on old Sedao media players and attached to the Cleverlive Cloud. Finding them very limiting and the one night of the year we really need it to work was open evening when different content is required to be presented at certain times and they had an issue at their end on that day/evening and the support response wasn't great. 

 

Wanting to ultimately pass it over to non  technical staff which rules Xibo out. Looking for the normal usual functionality but also the ability to handle native power point slides. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Posting for anyone coming across this in the future - I have used a few solutions, initially years ago MagicInfo Pro from Samsung as it was embedded in the TVs and it worked well though limited to those screens. Most recently I've used https://slideshow.digital/ and absolutely will continue using it and have no hesitation recommending it. It's completely free and I have it running on dedicated android signage boxes that came with the screens but believe it can be loaded on devices like amazon firesticks using the APK download. 

 

It's an android app for the player and hosts its management interface from the device, but it can be configured to pull content from google drive (for example) so once you set up schedules / layouts etc people can update it by simply maintaining a google drive folder. It can auto load with android so recovers with no intervention from things like power outages. I have not tried it, but it also allows you to sync screens so if you have multiple screens in sight of each other they will display the same content at the same time. It has a ton of features and seems well documented including a large library of video guides.

 

For my use case the content rarely needs updated as it is just displaying generic visitor information so I just update the content myself through it's built in interface if needed.

 

The software seems very resilient, I just have them run 24/7 (out of hours they just display a black screen). The two screens I have running have needed my intervention 3 times total I think in the two years since setting them up - and each of those was due to android (screen lock / wifi), not the signage software.

We've just invested in TrilbyTV. It is expensive - but it's doing the job. I'm just a bit slow setting it all up.

We've only got two screens - each has a raspberry pi behind - and we run the (free) Anthias system.

Each pi has its own web-address - so we upload images - set up the timings - and all good.

 

Each screen is controlled separately - so works really well for two screens - I don't think I'd want to get many more like this.

But was very simple to set up.
