Broadband provider recommendations

Hi all,

 

Apologies for asking a question that probably gets floated about a lot.

 

Can you please recommend a reliable broadband supplier to your schools? We currently use Schools Broadband/Talk Straight but unfortunately have been let down for various reasons so starting to look at alternative options.

 

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

We use BT 1gbit for a leased line. Was the cheapest and has been rock solid.

 

We did need to buy our own Smoothwall UTM though and manage this ourselves.

We're with schools broadband (only internet connection, not filtering) - no complaints from the connection side

 

I've heard good things about wave9

The service is rock solid and the support when required is excellent

We use Evolving Networks, excellent service over the last 5 years.

Virgin business direct for multiple leased lines and no issues for many years. You need to sort your own firewall + filtering though. FortiGate and Securely is my choice.

We're using Coconnect across 5 schools and (so far*) they don't suck. They're pretty good actually, we've had them for a few years now and they haven't gotten complacent.

 

*as of 04-03-2025. Not guaranteed after that date.

Another one for CoConnect here, great team behind it. On their netsweeper solution which has not let us down once in nearly 12 months.

We use BT 1gbit leased line. Not been down for 10 years now (touches everything wooden nearby) and the best thing I ever did in terms of connectivity/reliability.

 

Run own Smoothwall UTM and managed in-house.

We are with EDS. Interested to hear how you get on moving to a new provider. Are you having much issues with EDS? Since they went with Netsweeper cloud there's been a few instances of downtime.

Commenting just to echo this: Wave9 have been a complete breath of fresh air for us after a very bad experience with ANother broadband supplier for the past two or three years. We've had no issues at all on project, implementation, or support. Highly recommend them!!
