OLPTech Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 We're long time users of Impero Education Pro and have been very happy with the product, has it's issues but overall does exactly what we want it to. They seem to be pushing StudentKeeper at Bett and we now have a demo with them next week. What's anyone else opinion on the new product, have you seen it or had a demo as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere other than themselves? Their new Ativion website is very basic and doesn't give much insight to what the product does or offers and whether it's a replacement to EdPro or not. Thanks!
sigma Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 We are also long time users of Impero Education Pro. I didn't go to Bett and haven't seen the new product, so I would be very interested in your opinions after your demo. It seems to me that there are a number of different products in or near the space that are all starting to converge. We want to be sure we have all the bases covered, but at the same time don't want to be paying for functional duplication.
BucksITguy Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 I had a quick demo at BETT. It looked good, had some interesting features (obviously AI driven!) but that was running from a test bench with minimal users. We are back in the market for classroom management software but wasn't really clear if they offered just that or the whole package which included filtering, monitoring, their own AI (which I believe was partnered with Chat GPT). Ill likely explore a little deeper later this year. Free socks too!
OLPTech Posted February 7, 2025 Author Posted February 7, 2025 Sure after my demo will let you know what I think. Would also be interested if they offer it separate as we already use Smoothwall which we're more than happy with. We just want similar feature set as EdPro
Joeloman Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 Hi Liamread2000 Smoothwall also has a classroom tool, Smootwall Classwize. Smoothwall has had one for quite a few years. But it is not marketed directly in the UK, as the focus is on the other products. More info can be found here: https://smoothwall.com/solutions/classwize the latest features are not included. The product has many good features such as the teacher can have their own favorites which means that all the tabs the student needs to be opened at once. The teacher can share their screen with the whole class or only selected students. Also good if you have a USB microscope connected, for example, so you don't have to darken it but just share the screen. If you have Google, all classes are taken from Google Classroom so you are up and running in no time..
OLPTech Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Thanks, I did take a look at classwize but unfortunately we use Impero EdPro for a lot more than just Classroom management which is why we'd struggle to find another solution to do what it did unless we moved to having multiple different products doing each aspect. From my demo personally it isn't anything as a school that we are currently after, they've seemed to move away of being a tool that does classroom management and remote support into being more of a primarily safeguarding and filtering product which we already have both of these in place and are unlikely to change any time soon. The new product is a lot like the Impero Backdrop product with isn't something we're interested in. We were assured though that EdPro isn't going anywhere anytime soon as it's still one of the few tools that does classroom/monitoring/remote support that still has a lot of customers and fits our use case exactly. Until they add all of the features EdPro offer onto their new product I can't see them EOL'ing EdPro as my opinion would just be pushing all of their customers to another solution. All my opinions though, other schools might find it fits their needs if they're purely after a safeguarding and filtering solution. 4
matte53 Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 I had a demo of it last week following on from seeing it at BETT. Full release I believe is due to be around May time, it looked to have the potential to be a decent product. The classroom management element of it though appeared much more basic than the full version of Impero Pro, so whilst would likely be fine for teachers to see what students were up to in lessons, it lacked the more full feature set that possible an IT team might like. From what I've seen this is similar with a lot of the products now, as they try to tick all the boxes of filtering, safeguarding, monitoring, altering and classroom management. 2
aydee Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 Hi Guys, Just reviving this thread to see if anyone has moved forward with StudentKeeper or has any further thoughts? Curious to see what the consensus is as its not something on my radar nor can I find much on it outside of their own site etc. Thanks. 1
rob980 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Hello, We have implemented Student Keeper for our iPads. On the whole it is decent. However, there are some features it lacks. 1 - immediate reporting - there is no option to send emails to staff on immediate concerns - i'm told it is in the pipeline but we are 7 months in and still nothing. 2 - they seems to remove basic features - the ability to update keyword lists was removed and hasn't been put back. 3 - reporting is hit and miss 4 - system is difficult navigate when you have multiple sites. Support is generally responsive but the replies are usually they are waiting for the backend team. 1

Our trust is moving over from a hybrid Smoothwall setup so would like to know how it is going to compare in your opinion? keyword lists not being editable seems like a really basic fature that should be avaliable so i am unsure why anyone at StudentKeeper would think its a good idea to get rid of it?
rob980 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Hello, Just iPads for us. Our iPads are 1-1 with many allowed to take them home. StudentKeeper allows us to still filter when offsite. The keyword issue....we were able to edit it, then they took it away because of some issue and we have been without it for months. Its in the final stages of testing apparently. 1

I'd be interested to here more on how you've found this product, as we've been looking into it as potential replacement for our current solution for 1-1 iPads, as well as other onsite devices.

rob980 Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Apologies, edugeek is not something I usually visit. IMO, the product is not complete. Filtering works as you would expect. We are unable to send instant alerts for safeguarding, at the moment they have us set on an hourly report which only they can set up on the backend. Keyword list editing cannot be done by either us or them. We did have it, they took it away and haven't put it back yet. We use it for iPads only. In order to capture screenshots of activity, student must enable screen recording everytime they access the internet. If they don't, the internet doesn't allow them access. As we are deployed MAT wide, we cannot enable to single schools, its all or none. If they disable the VPN or tamper with the SK app it disabled the internet which is useful. 1
