[ms office - o365] New Outlook May 23

Thought start new thread before i get turned into a frog!

 

Bit i don't like so far;

 

Calendar you can't cycle with scroll wheel,

The look,

Doesnt seem to have my other mailboxes added automaticlly just my main one.

 

Things i do like;

Having the Inbox icon in line with the File menu just is wrong.

Plus I want the choice of where the icons go, side or bottom. I use a portrait screen so I now have lost screen real estate to read emails because MS have decided the menu has to be there.

Ohhhhhhh, that is pretty!

 

EDIT: Totally poop in portrait mode. I do like the functionality it brings and like OWA, but the layout is so bulky it is pointless in anything but widescreen mode, which is odd when you think about tablets and the like.

 

I have just found that I can hide the folder bar, that gives a lot more space. Means I can't see when things come into other mailboxes though.

Oh no, my users have found they can "react" to emails now... Not sure its what is called a "helpful" feature... (not seen it before, but may be something that has been out for a bit longer, but only just discovered this when someone sent me a "thumbs up" instead of actually replying to my email.)

I thought this originally but it's helpful as people can just thumbs up something to indicate they've read it, instead of sending back a further email.

Reactions in 365 mail have been around for quite a while now, and a large number of our staff actively use it to show they have at least read the e-mail and is quicker in cases than sending a "Thank you" one back.

 

I'm actually waiting for the chaos that will ensue once the "New Look" Outlook becomes standard and switches over to pure OWA look as some staff don't like the browser and can only deal with the old legacy layout of Outlook desktop

My Exec Head sent a strongly worded email saying that 'This isn't Facebook, you can't just passively like a message - you need to reply with actual words like a professional'

 

People are still using likes, but not nearly as much.

 

I showed it to my wife last night who does admin for the NHS and is the Queen of Outlook - she nearly threw up, so, not sure how well the transition is going to go for her... Thoughts and prayers for me folks.

I suspect if you brought this up with MS they would tell you to use the mobile app... Even though it doesn't provide exactly the same functionality.

Are you using software restrictions to block EXE's from running from the users Temp folder?

We added an allow rule for the following path to allow users to switch to new Outlook

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Temp\NewOutlookInstall\NewOutlookInstaller.exe

No restrictions. If I pull the exe out of temp and run it I see a "pre" splash screen then after a few moments it loads a microsoft suppport web page..

Argggh! I switched for about 5 minutes, then switched back.

 

Unfortunately it appears to have changed my OWA at the same time, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to switch back in OWA.

In a weird state currently where Office is better on MacOS that it is on Windows...

It's been that way for awhile! Seems like the MacOS team have a bit more freedom and much quicker update rollout than the Windows team.

 

The remote desktop app on MacOS is leagues ahead of the Windows app

When searching through emails, emails past last week are in the American date format showing month - day ....

 

Edit:

 

Fixed by going into general settings and changing langauage from US to UK and the right date format.... even though my old outlook had the correct settings it didnt pull it to the new version...
