Best reason to not use that account? Screw security - it’s because it’s a **** to type.

Still hear people calling SQL ‘sequel’. I get it, I guess, but…it make you sound very, very old!

On many occasions, typing the word "account" too quickly has resulted in the o and the second c changing places - and often that's set off the swear filter!

Having to deal with both slypexia and roticity, I have done some fun ones over the years. Having had a very broad scouse accent as a kid hasn't helped either.

As a young and innocent child, on a camping trip in Yorkshire, we were short of pegs to hold onto the ropes. I was given a few quid and sent to the camp shop.

In I trot, wait my turn and eventually get to the front of the queue. I struggle to understand the deep, Yorkshire voice of the bloke serving and eventually I manage to ask for the tent pegs.

In a high pitched scouse accent that comes out as "Tenpex" ... and after some discussion behind the counter I am passed ... a box of Tampax. Being too embarrassed I go back to the tent and explain to my Mum .... and she and my older brother roll around on the floor laughing. In years to come, my eldest brother (a different one) was my best man ... and in the wedding speech he mentions this ... and so the laughing continued.

I also say spare and spur the same, and avoid many words that have a strong r in them ... A team needs to gain a high position in the table, rather than saying they need to improve their rank ... as I am sure you can guess the problem!

I was almost waiting for a 'Four Candles/Fork Handles' type story there...

Not so much a pronunciation error from the OH last night, but a 'you know when you can't think of the right word, but say what's in your head anyway' wrong word moment....

On thinking that someone who is well read, she said they were very 'literal'.... in her defence she knew it was 'wrong' but couldn't come up with a better word (I can't think of one either, 'literate' meaning you can read/write, or 'literary' which is 'of literature') so I'll stick with 'well read'.

Then later on, there was something else but I forget what it was, as it descended into a 'you're picking on me' argument....

Cars

Aussies who call it Subah-ru instead of Subaru

An ex gf who used to say Marcedes instead of Mercedes

And, of course, Americans who have coups instead of coupes.

Who really knows though... how long have we been saying Hyundai and Ikea 'incorrectly'...

Not so much a mispronunciation (it is a %$£^* to get the correct number of "R"s an "T"s when spelling, though) but whenever I'm dealing with Amazon's Java implementation I get this playing:

I’m old. I never called it sequel even when I was coding it to access DB2 on mainframe … now that bit does make me sound old :D

That's the one thing that really gets on my tits is pronouncing SQL as 'sequel'.

Mysequel, postgresequel?? Idiots.

Being dyslexic i say quite a lot wrong....

Same but I also like to add in words to solidify getting things wrong.

I also have a very slight stutter so sometimes nothing makes sense!

Hmmm... Not "Squirrel"?
A German friend found the word "squirrel" almost impossible to say, (don't know what she made of SQL)..

The German squirrel word - eichhornchen has a nice ring to it.

Which reminds me of a German friend back when I used to smoke. While we were musing about creating a sitcom based around our lives we decided his catchphrase would be his offer of a cigarette because his accent, which softened the "a" sound, made it sound like something else when he said, "Want a fag?"

I used to think it was pronounced "School" when I'd only ever seen it written (15-18 year old)

Since I started working in IT, it's always been Sequel

Now, the debate about SCSI.. Is it 'Scuzzy' as most folks call it, or 'Sexy' as it was intended? :p

I assume we're not getting in to the whole "GIF" thing.........
