I have long-running issue with iPads on Mosyle not installing apps deployed to them.

If they're DEP enrolled then the only way to re-enroll them is wiping and losing all the photos.

I have a typical iPad here. It hasn't updated or installed any new apps in months.

The Mosyle Manager apps on the iPad is communicating with Mosyle. It lists the apps I've recently deployed to it. Tapping (Re)Install/Update has no effect other than the message "command sent to the device"

Mosyle website shows the Last update info: 11:56 - 25/11/2020 - that's about 2 years ago.

The current push certificate is valid, though it could have expired and been renewed in the past 2 years. The Mosyle MDM profile appears as not verified - the *.mosyle.com cert has expired; though Mosyle support say this is cosmetic and does not affect the application of the profile.

There has to be a better solution other than wiping the devices every time this happens.

Any ideas?

If you apple push cert expires you need to re-enrol from what i understand, that would explain the lack of it being able to communicate.

I hope you didnt have reset hidden otherwise youre gonna have to DFU to recover them :(

Thanks.

Last year I put events in my calendar for the push cert expiry date on all the schools I manage. This must be one of the iPads that got expired before that.

I was hoping there was a better way or workaround to get the iPads to use the new push cert.

We had one of our push certificates expire accidentally, only solution was to go around and wipe them all I'm afraid!

All the expiry dates for certificates are now in the calendar - definitely a lesson learnt!

We used it as a good time to get all devices in, give them a refresh of apps/settings and grade them accordingly.

I know this thread might be dead, but I'd love a push in the right direction.

I am almost certain the issue described is what is happening to some iPads here.

There was no management for a while, push cert expired, now deploying an app just gets stuck on "pending install"

If I do need to re-enrol the device(s), how do I go about that? I have no experience with Mosyle so I am stumbling my way through currently

if theyre in ASM and assigned to the moysle server just a factory reset will do.

when they setup and do the DEP setup they will pull the new push cert

edit:

if they have the reset buttons hidden for users you will need to DFU them using itunes/configurator to get them reset

I'll give that a go. They are definitely in ASM and Mosyle. Thanks for the help. Is there any trick to the DEP setup or is it fairly straight forward to do?

Have you renewed to APNS Cert, this controls all access between the iPads and ASM?

Also, as we've had similar problems recently, if it's the "apps not updating" problem try hotspotting to your phone. Whilst ours set up fine, we were having all sorts of problems that went away when not using the school's firewall (Fortinet). After a lot of back and forth we are now getting the apps fairly successfully deployed/updated. The problem seems to have been some of the (many!) necessary Apple urls weren't getting through. Not convinced Mosyle's system is the best for accurate reporting, but we're on the free plan so can't complain too much!
