Dos_Box Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 My first computer was a Spectrum. Posh kid Mine was a ZX81, followed by a Commodore 16 (parents must have thought that it was newer than a C64 and looked like one, so must be better!). Then had an Atari 130XE, a 'proper' computer Then I had a C64 at last. Went to consoles after that with a Megadrive then into PC's.
HarryMonkey Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 My first computer was a Spectrum. I followed it up with an Amstrad cpc6128 and eventually to an Amstrad PC1640.
HarryMonkey Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Bingo! I'd love to get one to frame on my wall as I already have a ZX81 and ZX Spectrum done, and they make for great room decoration and conversation pieces. You can get them but they're not cheap ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234749941483?
36Degrees Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Mine was a ZX81 Would you like the joystick connecting or the extra 16K RAM? (Remember you can't have both!)
southhamster Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I thought it might be a ZX80. I remember throwing one away in frustration at how poor the keyboard was and the general uselessness compared to almost any other computer! But I suppose they were cheap in comparison.

They fetch over £150 now on eBay. And I forgot to incude the picture!

The computing power they contain is absolutely dwarfed by that in my watch but as a young lad at the time having one of these was like having a whole new universe open up for me. And when I finally got a spectrum, that was just bliss. I know that each time my parents saved and scrimped a year to get them, too. We didn't have much but they were willing to do all they could to encourage my interests in this IT stuff and my brother's interests in music. I think if my parents were still alive they'd be blown away by what their efforts back then have led me to now. 4
jthompson Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 This was thing that probably most sparked my interest in computing.
Dos_Box Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Oooh, that looks familiar, but can't place it...yet!
Norphy Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Is a remote control for something? One of those programmable mars rovers or something?
Roberto Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Pretty sure it's an early console? I was thinking something like a binatone TV Pong console but the colours are not quite right for that I think.
jthompson Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 we may need a clue here! I think it can run Doom, but that doesn't narrow it down much, so here's a 2nd clue...

jthompson Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I stand by my answer! Exactly correct! (I missed your anwser at first). I used to enjoy writing little programs on it. It's still my goto calculator on Android too, thanks to an emulator.
Dos_Box Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I'd have never have got that! My turn again then....
