School/MAT Wallpaper Background

Just wondering what your computer background wallpaper looks like in your single schools/Multi Academy Trusts? Looking to redo ours but looking for a bit of inspiration first!

We currently run a departmental model of hardware, so our backgrounds match this. Each department has a background that is a photo of their area of school in some way. This will change when we eventually move to a one to one model.

While we have standardised wallpaper for the logon screen/lock screen at each school in the MAT which is automatically updated every fortnight (the joy of powershell scripts), the actually user wallpaper can be different for each school.

 

We have a flat colour for our users with login details in the top corner similar to BGInfo.

One of the other schools changes their wallpaper daily/weekly based on different student art work.

For our logon/lock screen we have a soft burgundy (our school colour) gradient background with our logo, school name and motto in the centre. When logged in, the same soft gradient background is used but with a smaller logo in the bottom right corner of the screen.

 

Our logo lends itself quite well to seasonal updates so during Christmas, I'll throw a Christmas hat on there and add some snow - the kids seem to always enjoy the change. (primary age)

I spent 2 hours getting a Christmas hat to have the correct angle on the schools' logo.

Wallpaper - Standard windows

 

Lock screen/login screen - Company Logo for user pictures, background is a nice picture of the location

Lock screen & login background is typically a school-specific picture overlaid with school logo. The image changes when IT or SLT get bored of it. Desktop wallpaper is fixed for the kids, staff can pick whatever provided it's SFW.

 

I still have to pick/design something for trust central teams, mainly because they have no nice pictures of their own.

Some how with a lot of effort i got a rolling background to work on ours so every 10 seconds there is a new image from a bank of images which are stored on the PC.

Standardised wallpaper...

 

Solid background, school colour with school logo in the right hand side lower 1/3rd.

 

Get's changed for christmas to a redrawn version of the logo with a festive element. For example, one school's logo is 2 trees, one of those trees becomes a christmas tree.

 

Lock/Login screens are also standardised with a school relevant image. One school gets changed every few months, the others stay the same until we get new promo images done and then it changes - realistically that's about every 2 years!

Resurrecting this thread...anyone else want to share their background/login screens? We are considering a redesign possibly with a QR code on to submit an IT ticket from a mobile device. A designer am I not though, so again looking for a bit of inspiration for something that actually looks good.

The and text in the Windows login prompt changes based on campus, the rest is standard. Sadly we have had to add the section to the bottom right recently due to people thinking that they can rearrange their offices and then complain to us that the cables aren't long enough.

 

The text in the top right is more for our use than anything else, but helps ensure that everything is correct:

'Host' is the machine name

'Subnet' is the 2nd and 3rd segments of the IP address so we can see that it's on the correct subnet

'PHY' is the last 3 octets of the MAC address

'OS' is the Windows build version

'Version' is the OS build date and time

'Boot' is the date and time of last boot

 

This is generated by a powershell script and recreated at boot.

 

We also have seasonal images that we can rotate, as well as a version with the map of the main site in the middle

Sorry for hijacking... but I would also be interested in seeing some desktop wallpaper ideas. Also what people use to make them... (I suppose photoshop is probably the obvious choice).

 

We use either GIMP or Photoshop. The actual images aren't that complex though, as everything is printed to the background by script.

I don't have the wallpaper any more, but a long time ago I requested a wallpaper from our marketing department as we were doing a domain rebuild and I wanted something a bit better than the annoying RM background. I waited and waited and it got to the point where I needed something.

 

I took one of the built in Windows backgrounds which had flowers on it, put a massive gaussian blur on it, turned it monochrome and then tinted it to the school's colours. I put the school crest with a small drop shadow in the top left corner and left the bottom right for bginfo.

 

It was never supposed to go into production but the marketing people didn't provide a wallpaper, no-one complained about it so it lasted at least three years. It might still be there for all I know.

Normal lock screen for students and staff. No intention of changing it any time soon. Anything that gets the normal blue Windows 11 lockscreen we know at a glance is having issues being joined to the domain.

We get ours redone as part of the prospectus/website refresh. Let the pro's do their thing. We just make sure they understand the sizing recommendations.

Plant the seed of the idea in the Head Teachers mind, when they have the flash of inspiration that branded desktop wall paper would be a lovely idea, suggest they ask the Marketing team to put something together for you. (or if you don't quite have the relationship to be able to tell the Head what to do, email marketing yourself with the opening line "Ms/r HeadTeacherName thinks it would be great if....." and cc The Head.

We have a template setup in Gimp to drop all 7 school logo's in the MAT, plus our MAT logo in the correct place based on if the background image is a 4:3 or 16:9 ratio, then we generate a few thousand files based off Windows Spotlight files we download every 12 months.

 

Every other Friday we when have a script that randomly picks one of the pre-generated files and drops it onto the DC's at each site so when the bootup powershell kicks in, it copies it down then uses that as a base image to create a workstation bespoke one with the school moto's, workstation name etc similar to BGInfo, but it also checks the monitor resolution so the right file is used and images don't look stretched
