New MFD/Copiers - what are your thoughts on these devices.......

Currently going through loooking at renewing our managed print solution and wondered what peoples thoughts are on the following devices.....

 

They will be managed via Papercut and follow me print queues.......

 

I've not used any of these devices so I have no idea what the quality is like.

We use Develop Ineo machines. They are rebranded Konica Minolta.

 

We have issues getting the correct drivers. Even the latest ones they provide aren’t signed. We have to use a diver for a different model and loose a feature. Very frustrating.

Toshiba are good machines, I prefer Sharp over anything but that is personal preference. Out of them options it would be Toshiba but there all much of the same now.

 

Get samples from each, also look at which one is more user intuitive get your repo person to go to a showroom and try each and get a feel as they are the ones using them they will know what works best.

We’ve had Toshiba machines for a while and they’re pretty reliable. I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with Kyocera mfd’s but that may have been more down to the supplier (danwood) being awful

I have used Kyocera's - can't stand them. We are moving over to canon's.

I liked Kyocera Taskalfa, had no problems with them. The only thing I had to do with them in the first year of the contract was just installing toner etc. It depends on your contract with the supplier I guess

Don't touch the Konica or Develop with a barge pole. Nothing but driver issues and constant breakdowns.

 

Out of those options Toshiba would be my choice, but Sharp or Canon would be my actual choice.

Konica Minolta are OK, but Sharp are the best I've come across.

We had sharp for the last 6 years and hardly any issues - but current supplier has mentioned that Sharp were or had closed their UK parts center so all parts now come from Europe which is now causing a delay in some repairs - that a knock on effect from China as some parts are made in China......

 

Have cone back to current supplier who are quoted for the Develop machines - was nice to actually see some nice completive quotes for a change and we ended up looking into copy cost and the charges within the SLA to pick the supplier.

Have Toshiba here, only the odd minor issue.

Last job we had Kyoceras across multiple sites, engineers had basically moved in.

We have the Develop Ineo copiers, We have a pull printing system on them which I like. We haven't had many major issues with them, certainly no better or worse than what we had previously.

Liked the newer Toshiba e studio ones and worked with some really old Kyocera's that just seemed to keep going.

I have sold various Manufacturers over the last 35 years and I swear by the Toshiba devices. They are robust and reliable. This is clearly also down to the service support. Develop are branded Konicas and generally have a good build quality. Kyoceras are good as Mono only devices, they haven't managed to get the colour system right yet. I would also say that Canon, Sharp and Ricoh are also fairly good. I wouldn't touch any other brands for Education use if you want quality and reliability.

As you have KM, have you had any excuses from them about toner? Apparently there have been issues?

Supply issues ? We don't have KM here but I heard there was a fire or something in the place that manufactures the cartridges leading to further supply issues

We have just had a quote through for HP Machines which are much cheaper so is there a reason they are cheaper? Should i stay clear of HP for copiers?

Hi. I have sold print devices for 37 years and to many educational sites. I worked for a company that was taken over by HP a few years ago and whilst they are okay for general office use I wouldn't say they are ideal for educational use. My suggestion would be something more robust and up for the Job. Please let me know if you would like me to quote on something for you? Thanks.

I've worked with both but would personally pick Sharp every day of the week. We've got 40 of them, the user UI is far more user friendly that Toshiba.

 

They would be my top 2 with Sharp been number 1.

When we looked, Ricoh were on the framework and we ran them for 4 years while I was at the school. Problem free and excellent maintenance service. It was a step down in price and up in quality from the Konica we had before - but these things do change.

We had Sharp (6050s) in shared areas (so used by staff and pupils, on PaperCut) and Toshiba in reprographics. Both are decent enough (despite the former supplier slating them for not being "tier 1" when they realised they were losing). I think I prefer the Sharp.
