When are you planning to move your school(s) to Windows 11?

Avoided windows 11 until now as we all know microsoft release a good one, then a bad one, then a good one, then a bad one.....repeat haha. I have been pretty impressed though and using it on my own PC on the network for a month or so. I have the similar issue to others where probably only 50-60% of hardware would upgrade.

With Schools moving to ChromeOS, how do you use propriety software such as Oktopus/SMART, Visio etc.

 

Current thinking here is that one school will remain predominantly Microsoft. The other are expecting to go ChromeOS for everything except admin staff who will use retain windows PCs (for Excel and finance systems) with but storage in Google file stream. Currently evaluating using Smart as a published app in RDP while people convert resources into Jamboard.

It does and it doesn't - LTSC is not intended for use with general purpose computers, all you're doing is prolonging the inevitable. Whilst I'm not thrilled about having to replace so much equipment before October 2025 I now see it as an opportunity and there is sufficient time to spread the cost to ease the financial burden somewhat.

 

We've worked hard with our schools to teach them that one off spends on IT are unsustainable - everything requires replacement at some point so this has to be considered on purchase and then as part of annual budgets.

I'm telling finance to treat it as a 'grace period' to spread the full cost out another 2 years.

I think coming net years summer we'll be looking at moving over, we have a bypass to get past all the requirements. We managed to get it on a Core 2 Duo with 2gb of ram.

As Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, I have informed the business manager that the school will require 100 new computers / year for 3 years to meet the hardware requirements. I will do a test build, and then upgrade 1 room to Window 11, as a test platform, and when I am happy with how it works, then the rest of the school as hardware permits.
