fiza Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 We currently have a Ruckus system in place. We are moving to 1:1 over the next few years so want to make sure our Wireless coverage will be up to the job. Any recommendations on a company that can come in to do a WiFi coverage survey for us?
Norphy Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Switchshop are good and are certified Ruckus vendors if you want to stick with them Net-Ctrl as well, they're on these boards quite often. 2
Net-Ctrl Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Morning, we can perform a density survey for you. We just need some scaled site plans to begin - we will also need to understand device types across your site, applications to be used, and desired density in each area. We still have some availability for summer - pricing will depend on how many days are required to complete.
RobD Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 (edited) Natilik do a lot of really good surveys: I've also used VCG and Open Reality Edited July 9, 2021 by RobD

cw222 Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 (edited) We used/use Digitalairwireless / DigitalAir Very good, got us some really useful info when we had issues regarding ap strength and coverage and have done all our wireless surveys with our new building projects Edited July 9, 2021 by cw222
ronnoco Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 We used Net-Ctrl many years ago and the survey was excellent. Needed quiet a few less AP's than expected. 1
gpjt Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 What sort of costs are we looking at for a survey? Quoted about 1K recently, but that gets discounted if we go with said company for the install.
Net-Ctrl Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Will depend on the type of survey you have completed - most - if not all - will charge on a day-rate basis. There are different approaches which will take a different amount of time. Predictive designs are typically free, ours are, this is off-site and requires scaled site plans description of built environment, users and applications. A predictive deployment is modelled around this input data. You have an APOS survey (AP On a Stick) - this requires a trained WiFi engineer to set-up an AP in every proposed location and walk the area to record coverage which is then put into a report. This takes the most time as you test every AP and move it to each location. Some will do an attenuation survey - this requires the engineer to put an AP behind a wall, stand the other side and record the signal loss. This data is then fed into the survey and a more accurate RF design is built - or you could do a post-deployment survey where the engineers surveys your existing deployment for black spots/density gaps etc. Additional Aps are then tested using the APOS approach. Typically you would do a predictive design first to have an idea on install method and associated costs, followed by the APOS survey, and then ideally and if budget allows a post-install survey of the new install. For day rate you would be looking anywhere from £700-1500 per day. We charge £795 per day as an idea. Remember though the survey is only good for the AP being used to test with - for example if you are considering many manufacturers you should ask that they all complete a survey. I hope this helps.
AndyB4rks Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 We would like a survey doing from yourselves. We are looking to replace our Ruckus system across 3 sites with a decent BYOD solution for students and guests, and having it all integrate with our Smoothwall S14 1
Net-Ctrl Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Hi @AndyB4rks - thank you. We would love the opportunity to work on your project. Please send me a PM with some contact details and I will ask one of the WiFi team to get in touch to discuss further.
