Sirbendy Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 What do yours do? We've just had ours replaced with a new..well, lets be generous and say "woman".. Apparently she wasn't much good in her last area, but in here...useless. We've left deliberate crisp packets on the floor - ignored. PCs? Dusty. Floor? Not vacuumed.. Out of curiousity, I pulled up the CCTV footage to see what she does...5am, there she is..vacuum is pushed around any open area of floor. No chairs moved, no pods examined. 5 minutes later, she wanders around with a duster, dabbing at obvious marks..no "wipe the desk" cleaning at all. Bins emptied, but the room is done and she's on to suite 2...vacuum comes in, look, take it back out. walk around the edge desks with a duster held down doing the front 6 inches of the desk, pick up a big bit of litter, wander off. She's in for a good 90-120 minutes..what the hell does she do in that time? It's not cleaning, that's for sure.

MK-2 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Our room hasn't seen a cleaner in 5 years. No, tell a lie, we had a cleaner come in once and never return. We have to empty our own bin, vacuum our own floor, dust our own worksurfaces. I'm not against doing it, but when people walk in and say "god this room is filthy" it makes it look like we get it that filthy in less than a day as it was obviously cleaned the previous night. Cleaners excuse: "You leave at 4:30 and we haven't got a key to your room" OK great, but you start cleaning at 3:15 so surely doing our room BEFORE the ones you DO have a key to would be logical?!?

bossman Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Hello all what are we doing here???? character assassinating the cleaning staff, who I think you will find get paid very little for what they do and let's face it would you do it for the money??? don't think so have we become so unprofessional that all we find to do each day is gripe about how the world is failing us come on people were better than this get a grip not a gripe!!!! shame on you for picking on poor defenceless cleaners who clean up sh*te that other people leave all over the place. :mad:
marco84 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Their rate of pay is still no excuse for doing a poor job. The same would apply to anyone, not just cleaners. If you are paid to do a job it should be done properly.

SpuffMonkey Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Quality here went down when it was outsourced - prior to that the cleaners took a pride in their rooms - after it went out - there was high staff turnover as the long time cleaners said they weren't given enough time to do a proper job and left - now its just a constantly rotating group who seem to do the bare minimum. They never come in our room as they don't have a key and don't get to here before we leave.
richard.thomas Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Ours tends to empty our bin into a bin bag and then leave the old bin bag in the bin, rather than removing the crap bin liner and replacing it with the new one. We did a major clean our selves yesterday- got the hoover and everything! Second time this year that the floor has seen a hoover. But to be fair they don't have a very nice job, and in our office we should be able to clean up after our selves!

tech_guy Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 A long time ago we had a lovely old lady who was very conscientious about her cleaning. The computer suites she did were always spotless but the only problem was the fact that every night she used to give all the computer screens a quick once over with the same cloth that she used to wipe the benches down with....the result was a screen with a smeary fog all over the front of it! We used to drop subtle hints but she never twigged.

sparkeh Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Wow the exact opposite here. The cleaner who does my room has an almost fanatical devotion to cleanliness. I get told off if I leave a mess The PO has high standards and anyone is found wanting then they are fired. Seriously its ruthless.

She's paid to do it - end of. Sorry, but that's life. I'm paid a crap wage too..does that mean I should just silence alarms and leave faults, and leave keyboards and PCs half torn apart? I think not. As has been said - if you're paid to do a job, you do the damn job to the best of your ability. We had an ace cleaner, who's now retired..and we're lumped with this utter excuse..it's frankly embarrasing, and bloody annoying. I think it might be time to set up the IP cam and see if she does anything in here. As I say - she was sacked from her last area (music) for being shite...and we were warned to keep an eye on her. Well, I can see why.. 3

I've got to say ours are pretty good, some will even shut down rooms full of PC's for me or retrieve bits and pieces of damaged computers etc. Maybe because I take the time to chat with them and always get them a tin of choccys at Christmas. What annoys me is the teachers who allow the kids to trash rooms and think it's ok to leave at the end of the day with the rooms full of litter, windows open, computers all left switched on etc because it's 'not their job'

It used to frustrate me to see piles of dirty mugs, plates and bowls just left because 'its the cleaners job'. In the end the PO told them to stop clearing them, the next day the teachers came in to all this crap and told that the only way it was going to get cleaned up was if they did it themselves. Been a bit more respectful since then.

Valentine Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 We had cleaners start to steal things from our office. Started with the odd mars bar and biscuit from our fridge and ended up with a laptop. The cleaners do not have a key to our room anymore.

If I'm still here when they're cleaning this area they ask to come in to clean, or depending on who it is I may get told to clear off (in a nice way!) for 5 minutes while they vacuum the floor! You can't see any worktops so there's no point in them doing them
bossman Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 @Sirbendy: I don't think you follow my drift young man, I am not condoning what they do but it is the fact that we as professionals are actually stooping so low as to taking CCTV footage of cleaners supposedly not doing their work properly according to some of us. Does this mean we are experts in the field of cleaners and their work if so then we are in the wrong job. I feel that if it were me who had the grievance of their environment not being as clean as they wished it to be, then I would take it up with their line manager or supervisor.

The CCTV isn't set up for HER as such - it's been in 3 years, running 24/7 for the suites/teacher/equipment protection - it was part of our initial design... Since it runs 24/7, it gets her. Doing very little. We've set up more little tests today..and the one in our office is due to things being a little moved about/knocked over/disturbed yesterday morning..which is a tad alarming. As to being experts in their field..no, but I know that cleaning involves wiping desks, picking up litter, and actually making use of the vacuum..otherwise the missus would have killed me by now..
Sylv3r Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 We have a great bunch of cleaners across the school, who all have a laugh and know everybody. They hoover all the floors, wipe the benches and keyboards. We tell them not to touch the TFT screens. In the past they have been known to switch off computers / turn off projectors - they have been shown how to do it and don't mind doing it. At the end of the term when all the staff go for a couple of drinks they can guarantee they get a drink off me for the work they do.
