Hi,

For some reason now when I print a JPEG image, the middle part to the image is missing. I have attached an example of a print to this email. Printing images was fine up until about a week ago. A user started to get this issue when she was trying to print images from a camera SD card. Then I tried this same SD card on another laptop, it worked fine for a day or two then she started to get the same issue with her laptop. Now I am getting the same issue with my laptop when I want to print pictures straight from a folder. It doesn’t matter which printer I use, all pictures printed have the middle missing. When I copy and paste the pictures to MS Word, it prints out fine.

I have restarted the print spooler but that hasn't made and difference.

Any support towards the right direction will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

With regards

Hi, when did you start having this issue? I am currently looking into the exact same issue for two staff members here myself and trying to find the cause etc.

About a week now. I have another user who also prints from a camera SD card and she can print fine. I have raised a support call with the suppliers of the printers but i don't thing they will be much of a help.

I've got the same issue here as well, just wondering if it was a Windows update that has caused the problem like various printing issues that started after the updates that got pushed out last Tuesday. I've got to get my hands on one of the laptops in Art department who reported the issue to me to check.

I am leaning towards a windows update now. We deploy ours over s share from a server so I have changed one to direct connect via ip so will see if that makes any difference.

Originally the 2021-03 Cumulative Update (KB will vary by version) was causing BSOD with some version of Windows 10 and certain printer drivers (Known Issues - about half-way down).

This was initially addressed by MS with a workaround (set printers to direct printing).

Further to this a new CU was released to Windows Update to either patch it or act as a 'fixed' CU to those that had removed the original (needs to be imported into WSUS though).

This appears to have fixed the BSOD, but it's unclear from the recent posts as to whether the original CU or the updated CU has caused this behaviour in the 'old style' image printing.

EDIT: Check the relevant CU KB's for your version of Windows...

Glad to see this thread - just had a teacher here with exactly the same problem. Thought I was going crazy but I've been remotely uninstalling the 2021-03 update, and evidently this member of staff hasn't restarted yet.

As far as I can tell, the BSOD and Photo Print Dialog issue appear in the KB5000808/802 updates and the patches KB5001566/1567 is just the print dialog.

Same issue here, confirmed with Sharp also.

A temporary fix:

Send the job to the Microsoft Print as PDF instead, save and then print the pdf file.

Wish I'd seen this thread before installing new printer drivers, deleting a user from Papercut, getting the user to run around the school trying different printers etc.

I did eventually start blaming windows updates as a defense mechanism and it turned out I wasn't telling porkies after all :)

So update on this. Connecting via ip made no difference, the problem is still occurring. I also attempted to rule out the potential of a driver issue by downloading the driver and installing it manually and the same thing happened when printing.

Also, thanks for the pdf idea, would never have thought of that.

I can confirm that this issue take place when printing pictures using the old picture printing software (print through right click) and that this is happening on sharp printers here.

Can confirm...

Updated CU installed, Kyocera MFD's.

Seems file format might be the issue?

I've tried with .bmp 4 pictures to a page, 600 dpi on A4 - seems ok...

.jpg = white bars

Yes, seems I was lucky with my choice of .bmps...

Well, might it be something to do with file size, image size?

Screenshots saved as .bmp or .jpeg in Paint (the original paint) I have no problem printing.

Photos have white bars when printed as .jpg .bmp and .png.

Even when I mix 2 photos and 2 screenshots, (4 x .bmp or 4 x .jpg) the photos will have lines and the screenshots come out fine on the same page...

I also (just for testing) took a screenshot of a photo! Saved it as a .jpg 4 times from Paint and printed that and it came out ok!

EDIT: Also printed 2 x original .jpeg and 2 x screenshot .jpeg on the same sheet - 2 x original had white bars... 2 x screenshot .jpeg came out ok...

It depends on the picture size. We have KB5000808/802 updates and the patches KB5001566/1567 installed here. No difference we can create contact sheets but large images will not preview correctly (you can try doPDF as the printer - this acts the same, however "microsoft print to PDF" always works without bands but I have no idea how much quality this loses). Also, with the Kyocera printers you can go to properties and "print preview" - this will show the bands or not.

Smaller pictures will work fine, larger ones will not. If I tone down the DPI from the "quality" from 600x600 to something small such as 72x72 then it works on all our printers and PDF. Start to get around 300x300 and it fails. Smaller pictures work just fine. I have tried various JPG from 200k to 24Mb, the large ones always have bands missing from the middle. Funnily enough, the windows 10 "new" photos app prints individual pictures just fine, even the monster ones. However we need to create contact sheets and "4 per page" etc.

For giggles, I tried saving the 24Mb JPG to a 170Mb BMP (!!), still had bands when printed. I have added 2 zips with 4 pictures that fail for me pcs1.zip pcs2.zip these fail even with doPDF as the printer. However they work with microsoft print to PDF and from the "metro" photo app.

Edit: confirmed issue by MS. Fix "available in the coming days" https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-20H2#1573msgdesc
