johbreaking Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) Where do Teams store the meeting recording after it has finished. We need to delete a recording from a scheduled meeting but cannot see how. The organiser gets the 3 dots but does not have the option. Have looked in onedrive but cannot see it in there either. It says it has 20 days left until it is deleted in the chat. Edited November 20, 2020 by johbreaking
morboss Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Normally the video would be uploaded to Microsoft Stream only. If the recording can't be uploaded to Stream it remains in the Teams service in a holding area for 20 days as a download link. If the download link cannot be accessed it might be blocked because user account does not have permissions to access it, possibly due to Firewall settings.

Team recordings for A1 are not uploaded to Stream anymore. I can access it and download it but we need to be able to delete the recording.
MYK-IT Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 All Teams recordings will be saved to One Drive only, by 7th July 2021 (education). https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/tmr-meeting-recording-change
johbreaking Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 Already checked onedrive it's not in their
msi_school Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I had to go through this with Microsoft because of an inappropriate recording. They can do it but it is a back end server fix and takes quite a lot of time and effort If you remove the users from the meeting they can see the links to the video but can not access it via the meeting chat. However if you want it deleted do not remove all the users as Microsoft need the link to find the Video.
leegcvcc Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Go to their chat history for the meeting and the recording is there to download. Then you need to go to powershell and specify Stream or OneDrive even if it already shows the storage as Stream. It seems to ignore that, so you need to do it again! Have a look at this doc! cheers Microsoft. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/tmr-meeting-recording-change
mrhall Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 We've tried to set up a new channel when we do a recording - then we can delete the channel if the recording needs removing. You can delete the whole team - copying all the resources via Sharepoint before you do so. Isn't pretty...
gumbygaz Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Hi, Is deleting the whole team the only way to remove the video? We've got a video that needs removing asap. Can't believe there isn't a way to quickly delete the videos. Gareth
Edu-IT Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I've been looking for a way today but can't find how.
mrhall Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Can't be done! i think you can raise a ticket with microsoft and they can do it - but far from quick and easy. Best method - is for staff to record lessons / meetings in a new channel - and then they can delete the channel. So if they want to keep the recording - download and save somewhere - so if there are any issues they can delete the channel. 1
gumbygaz Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Cheers @mrhall - ended up having to delete the team. Couldn't wait for Microsoft, they kept telling me to look in my Onedrive or on Stream.....
Ditto Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I wonder if there is a GDPR angle here to put pressure on Microsoft? It really is most odd not to have a simple delete option.
smarties11 Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I thought all recordings were stored in sharepoint now, on the files tab of each team, in a recordings folder?
Liam Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Experienced this recently. We just tweaked the presenter policies to avoid it happening again. The problem is is that we forget it's a meeting system- not a platform built for millions remote working. I'm forever being asked by teachers to enable the ability to........... I think Microsoft and other offerings will have to add such features though. Something so small like even deleting a video..
Edu-IT Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 I thought all recordings were stored in sharepoint now, on the files tab of each team, in a recordings folder? I went via Calendar > Meet Now so no idea where those recordings are? I certainly cannot find them.
Lionman Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Deleting a Teams recording is straightforward BUT you must have changed your recording mode to OneDrive for Business. That link, already referenced above, is here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/tmr-meeting-recording-change Once you have made that change, recordings of meetings that take place in a team are stored on SharePoint. They can be found in the Files tab of the channel where the meeting took place, in a folder called Recordings. They can then be quickly deleted or shared with others just like any other SharePoint file. For a meeting not part of a team (i.e. set-up through the Teams calendar), the recording is stored in the OneDrive of the person who clicked record. Once again in a folder called Recordings. But if you've not yet changed your policy, there is no easy way. 2
mikemcsharry Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 I have this problem and some more info that may help. It seems that if you start a meeting using 'Meet Now' and then record it the videos only show up as 'download' and as some of the posts on here have shown, it seems impossible to delete them. The info regarding recordings being held in oeDrive / Stream / Sharepoint seems to only apply to recordings of scheduled meetings, not meet now meetings. This brings another question - is there a way to set a policy to prohibit meet only meetings attendees from recording the meeting? Is there a policy to prevent anyone / everyone organising meet only meetings? Is there anyone here that has defintiley set up ttheir teams to use 'save recordings to onedrive' who can run a simple 'meet now', record it and confirm the location of the recording?
Mako Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Is there anyone here that has defintiley set up ttheir teams to use 'save recordings to onedrive' who can run a simple 'meet now', record it and confirm the location of the recording? I've just done a "Meet Now" and recorded it and it went to the same SharePoint folder. 1
mikemcsharry Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 I've just done a "Meet Now" and recorded it and it went to the same SharePoint folder. Thanks Mako. Had you previously made the changes to not store recordings in Stream?
Mako Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Interestingly I'm not 100% certain I did (or I don't remember doing it). I was speaking to a NM at a neighbouring school, about the recording location issue, because ours had gone to SharePoint (OneDrive) before now. I haven't seen a recording go to Stream in a long while, put it that way. Story short, if I run Get-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy it shows that OneDrive is the intended location. 1
mikemcsharry Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 (edited) Thank you for the link, I've run through that. Perhaps I should have run your command the Get-... before I made the changes I can now see from that command I've got 'OneDrive for Business' as recording mode. Looking through the rest of that command output makes me wonder if there are a lot more options for teams Meeting Policies that are actually available than the gui gives us.. I'm not a powershell expert, but I'm pretty good at copy and paste. update.. reading through that output I can see that a fair few tags are showing Stream, I'll have a look at those policies Edited January 12, 2021 by mikemcsharry extra info
reprised Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 We have changed the default location of saving meetings from Stream to Onedrive but didn't realise it shares the video with anyone who was in the meeting - it appears as a video in the students' onedrive shared folder. Does anyone know how to disable sharing of the videos with meeting participants? We would only want our staff to have access by default - it seems a bit silly to have it setup this way as default.
Mako Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 @reprised It's set up that way by default because that's exactly the way Teams is supposed to be used. If a meeting is recorded, it can be revisited - what if you missed or forgot something that someone had said? Re-watching the video is exactly why it works this way. Equally, a Team (or class in our cases) could have up to 30 kids, chances are a few of them are going to miss the session. They won't miss out on what was said because they can catch up with the session in their own time. Making it so that it's private for the teacher only defeats the initial purpose of Teams having a recording function. We have been forced to shoehorn a platform designed around online meetings and collaborative efforts into a digital-classroom, which is not quite its original intended purpose. You can't stop the default sharing of videos, only educate staff in what to do if there's a problem.
gumbygaz Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Looks like we were in some limbo state, videos were recording fine but just appearing in Teams. No trace in Sharepoint/Onedrive or Stream? Very odd. which is why I was getting confused by the lack of delete options. So used the instructions that @Lionman mentioned (Cheers btw!) and now it's doing as it's supposed to. Putting the videos in Onedrive/sharepoint - So thankfully we can now delete! Now been asked to block downloading the videos, so they can just view them. Which seems to be another feature that's missing... all fun.
