  1. Hi, I have an HP 255 G7 laptop from the batch that we received from the DFE in our office that has no boot device found and can't get it to boot into recovery mode. I ran all the hard disk and memory tests and they all pass and was going to try a reimage but was wondering if this is possible as they are enrolled in intune. I'm not that familiar with the workings of intune, does anyone know if I can apply our own image from SCCM to it or will this fail because of the enrolment? If I do reimage it will it apply the restrictions as before? Thanks
  2. Microsoft have this guide you can go through: Keeping students safe while using Teams for distance learning I would recommend you to turn off Anonymous access if possible as having this on has caused us some issues with students Teamsbombing other classes/meetings.
  3. We've got some of the Tactus GeoBook 1e model and one has come back from a student with a faulty backlight. I've requested a replacement but haven't received it yet - does anyone have a contact number for the support as I couldn't see one in the portal?
  4. We have noticed the same (guest) issue too and i have reported it to MS but not heard back from them yet. I agree they need to add a no external users per meeting option when creating meetings and also the ability to temporarily disable chat when in the meeting.
  5. Hi, Just thought i would ask you all what's your opinion of having all teachers record their online classes? We have advised staff to record all their lessons for safeguarding purposes however when ending the recording it is then available for students to download from the meeting chat. I have asked Microsoft if it is possible to restrict access to only the teacher who recorded the meeting but this is not possible by default. The teacher would need to delete it manually from Stream or their OneDrive Recording folder (if using the new recording location). I guess this could be an issue if something happens in the meeting and students have the video but then again they could be using screen capture software. What do you guys do? Thanks
  6. I have been following this thread as our school have had these issues too. We initially started allowing staff to use Teams for meetings; we allowed anonymous users so they can also meeting with outside people. Now that students have been added to the mix we have the same problem - we only use Teams for meetings and use Firefly to create the meeting link via their integration. We can either disable anonymous access and staff will not be able to have meetings with external users or make sure staff only allow in users who don't have (Guest) next to their name. We have changed the following meeting policies for staff: Who can bypass the lobby - Organizer only Who can present - Only me We have also advised to disable "Allow attendees to unmute" in meeting options. Students have to raise hand and the staff member can unmute them to speak. I think Microsoft may also be releasing a toggle to Disable chat in the meeting options in January 2021 but we don't see it yet. We don't have our groups in Teams yet (we're just using the meeting function); does anyone know if having meeting with a class Team offers the ability to only allow authenticated members in while still leaving "allow anonymous users" enabled for meetings created outside of a team?
  7. We have changed the default location of saving meetings from Stream to Onedrive but didn't realise it shares the video with anyone who was in the meeting - it appears as a video in the students' onedrive shared folder. Does anyone know how to disable sharing of the videos with meeting participants? We would only want our staff to have access by default - it seems a bit silly to have it setup this way as default.
  8. Hi, We have a teacher who is trying to print multiple powerpoint slides per page by changing the printer properties instead of printing as handouts. Their argument is that the slides appear larger by doing it this way however papercut still charges them as if they had printed 1 slide per page (e.g. 4 slides on 1 A4 gets charged as 4 pages instead of just 1). Does anyone know if it is possible to set papercut to only charge for the number of pages set in the printer properties by the user? Thanks

    New laptops

Hi We are looking for laptops for staff and was wondering if you can recommend some reliable companies we can buy from. What specs do you guys tend to go for for staff laptops to run the usual office, SIMS, video calling software, web, email etc? Thanks
  10. Installing Powerpoint 2019 is probably the microsoft suggested "fix"
  11. Does anyone know if there is a definitive fix for this? We've had this problem appear on some of our Windows 10 IWB PCs and it's seems to be just Powerpoint 2016 that is affected - ActivInspire works perfectly without spiking. I've found that ticking "Disable Slide Show hardware graphics acceleration" in Options -> Advanced -> Display appears to help. I leave the "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" option unticked. I have set this on and haven't had any further complaints (touch wood).
  12. Hi ADMaster, Did you ever resolve the issue with slow initial login after sccm deployment? I'm deploying Win 10 1803 and have exactly this problem. The first user that logs in takes about 10 minutes to log in but any subsequent logins by other users are pretty quick.
  13. Not with these, but some of our Promethean boards would lose connection. We tried different pens, newer drivers, checked usb port power settings etc but didn't make a difference. A temporary fix was to unplug the usb and replug it and it would redetect it and work for a while until it happened again. We replaced the usb cables with the shortest and best quality available and this cured the problem every time. I'm not familiar with those screens but perhaps this could help.
  14. Hi I'm in the process of setting up the lanschool reporting server at our school but was wondering if anyone else has and if so how did you set it up to log banned keywords (esafety feature). We have a teacher console in each of our ICT rooms which are on different channels and it seems a user has to be logged in for the monitoring of student computers to work with the reporting server. Is there a way the reporting server can be setup to log everything even without the teacher's logged into their computers? Thanks
  15. We're in Barnet and it's down here. Can't get through on phones but they have a msg on twitter.
  16. Hi all One of our members of staff has received an email from a dodgy video/por n website which asks him to activate. It probably is a student who's used the staff email address to create the account. We are still learning office 365 and was wondering what the best way to deal with this spam. I have have added the email domain to the blocked list but is there anything else we can do to block these kinds of emails? Do you guys run keyword filtering of emails in office365?

    Logic express 9

Hi Does anyone know if we can source Logic express 9 from anywhere? I found some on Amazon but would need a couple more than what they have in stock. Thanks
  18. Hi everyone, I hope you're all enjoying a good summer and are not too overwhelmed with work. We are setting up office 365 education for our students and staff and was wondering if those who have been using it can advise what if anything you lock down for students. For example do you allow students to search for and email staff. Do you allow emails inbound to students from anyone or just certain domains? Currently they have Mail, Calendar, People, Newsfeed, Onedrive, Sharepoint, Planner, Tasks, Delve, Video, Sway, Forms. I would be interested in knowing what others do and sorry if this has been asked before but couldn't find a similar thread
  19. Thanks everyone
  20. Hi Can anyone recommend some reliable apple resellers? Also, can anyone recommend a reliable data cabling company preferably near to us in north west London who doesn't mind doing the little jobs as well as the big ones? Thanks
  21. This is something we have been looking at whether we should go roaming or not. We use local profiles and find they work well for us. Our login time is about 30-40s (quicker on ssd PCs) for a new profile and <5s for a profile that is already created. We don't really see a need to change but maybe we are missing out? Someone we had in to talk about a workspace manager told us we are working in an old school way .
  22. Hi We use software restriction policies to block certain files (e.g. .exe) from running and use the same one for all our PCs and laptops. One teacher has brought us a laptop on which she is using trying to use Python. We have a unrestricted rule that allows python to run. This works fine in school but when she goes home (She logs in with cached credentials) she gets the message "This program is blocked by group policy....". I have run gpupdate/force and rebooted but still doesn't work. Any ideas? Many thanks
  23. Are you using a wildcard ssl certificate with your radius server? They dont always play nicely with windows as we have discovered when deploying our new aerohive wifi setup.
  24. Yeah they are about that age - music department run a version of sibelius that won't run if we update to a newer version. I shall try it with another browser and see if it behaves in the same way. Thanks
