Hi everyone,

We are in the process of purchasing a backup solution from one of the providers; Druva, RedStore, Acronis, for our Microsoft Cloud based solution.

Has anyone on here had any experience working with these and what are your personal/professional opinions.

I mean if it's for your "Microsoft Cloud based solution" any reason you aren't looking at the Azure backups? If you're already linked into their ecosystem etc

Or do you mean backing up from Azure?

Have you seen the pricing concepts from Microsoft? :hat:

The backup solution is for Exchange Online, One Drive, Teams, SharePoint, Salesforce - retention 5/6 years.

Yep, but if you're talking using another provider to backup "to" your Microsoft cloud it'd be similar pricing :p Thus the query about your wording of Cloud solutions.

So you mean pulling downwards from Azure/365 to local prem? or to another cloud?

Would highly recommend Veeam for 365 backups if you haven't looked at it (for 365->cloud/on-prem), obviously also links into other Veeam products if you use any. You can pay per user too, so if you only want to do staff etc that's options.

We use Redstor , It’s simple to use , agent installed on each vm and we have the management console installed on a separate VM

Edit: Haven’t looked into there backup for cloud based systems , only on prem then backup to the cloud

Well those 3 providers are all in AWS, so it would be from Said places above (Sharepoint, OneDrive, ExchangeOnline, Teams, SalesForce) from m365 to one of those providers. There is no restore fee so that's all good as that's only applied if you use Azures Blob Storage.

We have 0 VMs, 0 on site server/backup kit. Everything is in cloud.

Have you used the Web Interface yet? We don't want agents on the machines. (we can if needed)

Wont go with Veeam as there solution they provided me was so all over the place and bitty and their pricing, well, so cheap I dont even know if their product does what I want it. I asked for a live demo and it went all dead. Iv got no time for a provider who has no time to sell their product to me.

Youre gonna need some software somewhere to run the backup surely?

We use redstor for our offsite, isnt cheap but its completely effortless. but not touched their cloud stuff

Well not sure what you mean in regards to all over the place, there's one product you need to backup 365. This also has a 30 day trial, and basic pricing stance on the site: https://www.veeam.com/backup-microsoft-office-365.html

But if I'm honest I'm not even really sure what you want anymore so bit hard to give any opinions on the products you mentioned :p

You're now talking about AWS, is that your storage? The vendors doing it for you?

In a nutshell, is it just a simple backup 365->"another cloud" you want doing?

I do know how Backups work mate. I'm a bit confused why your asking me this.

Druva, Redstore, Acronus all use AWS as a platform. I use m365/Azure as my platform. All 3 use a web based control panel with 0 software install on an endpoint other then the connector to your m365/Azure estate.

All I'm asking as per post one, has anyone used those products and what are there thoughts.

Well in all fairness the fact that 3 people who replied haven't understood what you asked is why I'm asking, because you're asking something without giving us the proper information...

But anyway, will leave it there if that's the attitude

Its not rocket science, I even had my friend read it and he got the point lol. I don't have an attitude, your just being a keyboard worrier. Its cool though.

Let me brake it down into babe steps.

"Hi everyone,

Situation: We are in the process of purchasing a backup solution from one of the providers;

Source of backup: for our Microsoft Cloud based solution. (You have two options, m365 which is Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, One Drive or Azure which we have 0 VMs and would like to back up Blob but you can only do this as a whole file. So we are avoiding this.)

To either: Druva, RedStore, Acronis (Which if you don't know how they work, or never used them, don't comment. These are based in AWS if you really have to know but most providers are hosted in AWS anyway.)

Main Question: Has anyone on here had any experience working with these (The above products: Druva, RedStore, Acronis)

Sub Main Question: and what are your personal/professional opinions. (With those products : Druva, RedStore, Acronis)"

Hope this clears things up.

He understood it clearly.....

Just for info, with most cloud based systems, you dont need on site kit to do anything.

As Steve21 said, try asking the question clearly next time

Its not rocket science guys... I'm not here for technical or asking how to set anything up... I'm just asking a plain and simple question of, how have you got on with the 3 products listed.

But it does not matter now as I'm trialing them, so ill get my answer that way.

Have you received pricing from the various providers you've listed yet?

I had a price from Druva for a backup solution once, they wanted more than my yearly budget... they didn't understand the education market AT ALL and had no education specific pricing, although their solution looked excellent.

Yer I can understand you totally. Iv had pricing from all 3. Druva is the cheapest per GB. Schools IT budgets are a joke I find as everyone feels everything should be free and cheap. Probably why everything in schools brake. (Worked in two)

have you looked into DPM ? As you could just back these upto to A ) Azure or B ) On Prem off Prem / on Prem

Also in regards to veeam

What is it you don’t understand?

Veeam is a fantastic product,

not sure if you have use it or not but you find a vast majority of education establishments use veeam purely for it’s robustness and simplicity, and the fact it just works out of the box

Don’t knock the product if you haven’t tried it because you could end up with a solution that claims to backup your infrastructure and turns out to be a pile of crap and you lose your job

Just to add to this, what's actually the point of backing up Office 365? I've found Microsoft's backups that they do themselves are more than enough.

In fact, I've had to rely on them more than once and they can restore files for you and some members on here have had TBs of data lost only to raise a ticket with Microsoft and get it restored for free.

Not to mention stuff like SharePoint Online and OneDrive have 1st and 2nd stage recycle bins so you can easily restore from that without raising a ticket.

1st and 2nd stage recycle bins are a joke. I had to restore half a SharePoint once and it took 2 days of searching for the correct deleted files. Even after this we still missed some because we re structured our SharePoint.

From my understanding, with restoring of SharePoint data, they restore it in one lump only and it over writes any existing data which is not all that clever.

The point of backing up Office 365 is that if you get a ransomware attack, or the data is removed unknowingly, you don't loose everything and you can have a longer and legal retention over the backups. (Most users have the SharePoint sites synced directly to their devices).

Believe me, iv done my research, and the major competitors out there know why they are doing this. Did you know that SalesForce are no longer providing backups from August/September of this year!

@Dan_ATR did you pick a provider in the end, I would be interested in your findings!

We are still dealing with Microsoft 'accidently' deleting 2500+ Microsoft Stream videos because we were 'incorrectly placed in a “cancelled” state during a past migration and the clean-up tool removed the data associated with your organization from our environment'

We are still pushing for answers how this could happen; they claim there are no backups! I'm not even sure these solutions cover backing up MS Stream!

While no consolation, Steam (somewhat like Yammer) isn't covered by the Office 365 T+C's, I believe it runs on a completely seperate platform and is more akin to a third party service.

I don't think that *any* service can actually back it up. Perhaps this will change when they deliver the improved integrations with Teams that are on their roadmap.
