I couldn't agree more. If there was ever a reason for the school to be inspected for it's risk assessment procedure and this came out, I can't see anyone judging it as 'reasonable' - which is a key legal factor.

If there’s easy access to soap and water I’d personally say that is preferable to using alcohol gel instead. Perhaps soap and water isn’t available in the classes which is why the supply of gel is directed there?

it is mentioned that there will be only one staff at a time in each admin area and 70% alcohol hand gel given to these offices. No mention of IT office. I am the only one IT person here. I am told to work from home and come as and when required. I have to set up more laptops to loan pupils so asked for hand gel and wipes but was told none there.

What about disinfecting the laptops i need to use? and the printers I need to fix or change the toners? cannot use soap and water there.

I absolutely wouldnt accept that. Dont let them get away with it. If you are moving around the school you need it more than the class based staff do

TBF the HT has said that if we run out of hand gel and he cant get any more - it's difficult ATM apparently - he will close the school

There is more than enough at present. Production has ramped up massively and there is now a surplus. All our suppliers now have plenty of stock, though the prices are still inflated. If it comes to it, the school can send someone to Home Bargains! There's no longer a need to close the school due to lack of hand sanitiser.

I'm interested to know if their statement "Kills 99.99% of germs and bacteria", whether viruses are included in "germs". There's unlikely to be research in to effectiveness on Covid-19 just yet, but knowing if it is effective on cold/flu viruses is a little reassuring. I found the following information on Dettol's website interesting on this topic where. Whilst they don't claim anything in relation to Covid-19, they do talk about some of their products having >99% effectiveness on other coronaviruses. They also advise against ingesting any of their products - now who'd be crazy enough to suggest such a thing

Leaving aside any political point - for amphibious reasons - there has been incidents over time of people trying to drink alcohol based hand gels - 'cos its got alcohol in it and therefore it is like booze - clearly

 

because people can be dumb

 

so it is worth having on the label!

The scientist led me to follow up. It appears the Muc-off product of the same name marketed to bike users QUAT (Ammonium quaternary compounds) based agents. The safety certificate on the CPC site is worth reviewing. Dettol appears to also be a QUAT product too.

Just caught up with this too. They were keen to say "face-covering" and suggested they could easily be made at home - I'm not adept with a needle and thread and I'm not convinced on the sock variant! Clearly they want to avoid a run on surgical masks, but it would help if they could point me to somewhere I could purchase something suitable, or even better something that is recommended.

it has been used as a sling several times and now exists as a face covering

 

 

if that wears out my wife has a load of scarfs that I can use - but I may avoid the pink frilly ones!

Come in packs of 4 and work out to £6 something with delivery costs.

You can even design your own!

I've started making my own as we're going to need loads. Every time you take a facemask off, you need to put it in a sealed bag until you wash it and then put a fresh one on. That means every time you have a drink or eat anything or remove it even temporarily for any other reason. If you touch it, you need to wash your hands.

 

Put one on as you leave your office to go to a classroom? Then you either need to keep it on all day or put it in the bag and have another one ready for next time you leave them office.

 

Granted, most people won't do that, but even when used correctly the evidence for wearing them is limited. Used improperly, you run the risk of increasing the spread, especially the risk of infecting yourself.

TBH i think he was just sick and tired of all the contradictory directives coming from government!

Also Apple have had guidance on wiping down their computers: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204172. Apparently Clorex wipes have been used by their technicians long before they updated consumer guidance.

 

So Clorex wipes aren't a thing in the UK, but if you can find products described as disinfection wipe for surfaces and non-invasive medical devices that have been tested to EN 14476 for enveloped virus, you should be pretty sure to be able to safely sanitise enterprise grade plastics and touch screens safely.

So is anyone going into classrooms during lessons to fix issues? We try to do things remotely but sometimes the issue is with the projector or requires a visit. We can wear a mask but that is to protect others. Are staff and students adhering to social distancing where you are for situations where you have to visit classes?
