Glad I waited... HP Laptops and iPads available today!!

We've been allocated 13 more devices. iPads would be best for us, but we've just got HP Laptops and Lenovo Chromebooks available.

The question is, should we wait patiently, checking daily, to see if iPads appear then snap 'em up, or do we just go for more HP laptops in case they disappear in the meantime?

I've no idea how to get the laptops secure enough to send home with pupils, though. Perhaps the tech support grant could go towards paying someone to help us set up Intune.

Went to place our order...

Yeah, I'm only seeing Lenovo laptops at the moment. Given our recent experiences with Lenovo laptops for staff, I think I'll wait and try again later.

I was just about to post the same thing!

After me commenting about the HP laptops disappearing, they have now been replaced with these.

May hang on a bit for the iPads after all.

Heard from Jigsaw 24 education iPads on a 6-8 week lead time--- might not hold your breath!

I've had a despatch note for the ones I ordered yesterday. See what happens!

ETA on some (non DfE) iPads we bought is mid January. I wonder if it's because the DfE scheme is hoovering up the UK supplies.

The Lenovos have USB C charging apparently, which is nice.

I wouldn't be so sure. I think it is only the latest model which has USB-C charging, and the one which DfE are offering is a 64GB eMMC rather than the 128GB SSD models currently on Lenovo's website. As with the previous DfE laptops, I think they're hoovering up discontinued stock.

We have been waiting for iPads too (as it's what we have had previously and what we have the infrastructure for rather than having to implement a whole new strategy, or have to deal with poor quality laptops/Chromebooks).

Unfortunately it's all in the hands of the Business Manager and everyday I ask him, he "hasn't had time"...

First day we got the email (Monday) he hadn't even checked, (Tuesday) he checked and there were none available, but subsequent days he's been out driving the minibus for a school trip (Wednesday), getting ready for a Governors meeting (Thursday) and today is his day off... When you think of the amount of schools who are getting in and checking first thing, it's no wonder any stock is snapped up immediately!

Which seems odd as the AC Adaptors those come with, allegedly have a USB-C jack.

EDIT: Nope, I'm wrong. It is a 45W adaptor but doesn't mention USB-C in the specs.

I'm just going on what it says in the tech spec, where it is only the latest model which says "45W USB-C", the others just say "45W". This could just be different wording for the same thing, though.

I'm hoping it'll be like some other laptops (like the Geobooks interestingly) where it comes with a proprietary adapter but still allows for USB-C charging.

Yes, I probably could if I'd been given the sign-on details....

I'll have a word with the BM on Monday as he's dragging his feet*.

EDIT: *Very busy...
