Jawloms Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Hi all, Very recently started playing with Teams, web based not the application. I've created a "Team", but when I go to "Assignments" it says "You need a class to start using assignments! Teachers: Start here." If you click the "Start here" it takes you to a help page telling you how to create a Team. Anyone any ideas please? Stuart

thimon Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Are you using Microsoft Teams for Education? I believe there are different licensing types available. When I create a Team this is the first option that comes up. 2
Jawloms Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 That did cross my mind as to whether there are different version. Under licensing I have got " Office 365 A1 for faculty" assigned to me, and in there I've got Teams on. Is there something else I should check?
MYK-IT Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 If you create a Team via the Team Admin portal, that is the (only) option you get when creating a Team. However, if you log into Teams yourself (presumably as Office365 Admin etc), go into Teams, select 'Join or crate team' you will get the the choice of Team type, as per @thimon post. Also, this article is 'very' useful, especially if you want to restrict (or limit) the creation of Teams to particular user(s) only. 2

chazzy2501 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 This is strange but I'm using SDS and all the teachers can create teams just fine. But I cannot! I changed my teams policy to teacher but still a no go. Pupils also cannot, I've applied no other policies. I'll assume SDS has done this somehow. Anyhow wanted to mention that the teams "app" is just the teams website wrapped in chrome. so the performance is identical.

Andy2789 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 We have got an issue with Teams, where we have created all the policies and assigned them but there are handful of staff who don't have the 'Create Team' Option they can only join a team. So we have had to manually create all of these teams for those staff, it's only 7 out of 150. So I can't complain, but we have found knock on effects. It almost treats them like a student, we have changed the policies applied and we can't shake it. Anyone else had this? @Jawloms - Yes that is how ours looks too! Sorry to hi-jack the thread!

[ATTACH=CONFIG]57435[/ATTACH] Yes, our Teams screen looks the same with the addition of 'Calendar' under the 'Assignments' tab. I spent an age trying to work out why it (calendar) wasn't displaying until I found out that Exchange Web Services (EWS) has to be enabled (on required user accounts) for this to display / work.

If you expand it, literally everything except the MDM for O365 is turned on. That's correct isn't it? The "Office 365 A1 Plus for students" one prevents you from adding classes I believe? AJWhite1970 Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Finally got my A1 Plus for Faculty licences, the trick (as told to me by M$) is to create a new staff account that doesn’t have any licences allocated, then go here:- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/products/office Sign in as the new account and then choose teacher. The account gets allocated A1 plus (assuming you are entitled) and the Faculty plus licences get added to your subscriptions in the portal 1

I've been on this for a few days now and it's driving us crazy. 24 Hours. It was just that they had the student licence allocated in the Microsoft 365 admin centre against their log on account. 1
eejit Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Ok thanks for that. our users had licenses weeks ago, so probably not the same issue. We've only enabled Teams since then so I wonder if the order has caused a problem. I'll try to remove some licenses, re-add, and check. Cheers again.
