Liam Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Just a quick one. I have bene asked to source high spec, robust and reliable windows laptops for our trust staff. My initial thought was a surface pro but they seem a little pricey and was met with a little resistence. Just wondering what others purchase that meet the requirements listed above. They currently have macbooks and have explicitly said they don't want anything bulky and heavy. The idea is that they will dock at their desks and be able to freely unplug and be on their way. Any suggestions would be brill. Liam 1
DalekSec Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 The Surface laptop is the best Windows Laptop on the market at the moment imo, not for high end work like CAD or Gaming but for word processing and the occosinal Adobe work it's perfect. Then surface docks to go with them! 1

john Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 The HP 840s are very nice and have nice docks. Also they have the HP Sure view display which is a tick for gdpr / privacy. They also have things like the x360 which is lighter and even lighter still is the Dragonfly that's sub 1kg!
chaplic Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Not sure 'robust' and surface go in the same sentance, i've seen more than a few bent ones (and the keyboards get worn quickly). I have had a Surface pro 4, surface go, wife has a Surface Book I can't see past an Lenovo X1 carbon, light, strong, all day battery. Typing on it now.
Liam Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 Hm, I had my surface for years. Loved it. Perhaps I should have mentioned that they want the device to be around the £700 mark. Oooops. I think it's difficult to meet at needs at this price without compromising on quality or performance.

I deployed an earlier variant the 260 across the Trust I used to work for and went down quite well with most of the staff. It was light, touchscreen, didn't look to bad and had performance. Only problem was staff kept forgetting they had put a pen or something while they working then closed the lid and crushed the screen against it... (they weren't used to having laptops)

You can get them cheaper with i3's in but I wouldn't like to run one of those for demading work. The XPS 15's are much more expensive than that too, although my last XPS 15 was a hell of a weight!. The Latitude line is much more suitable. 1
bald_pig Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 I have a HP Envy X360 for work, it can be flipped to use as a tablet if needed, and can use a USB C dock for docking. With a Ryzen 7 processor, it's more than capable as well.
