if its one of the newer printers InVentry use (ql800) you can use the black and red rolls that produce a much clearer badge. Other things to try is change the angle of the screen to put more light on the visitors. raising the brightness on the webcam also helps with the badge quality, yawcam is installed on the systems so just use that to adjust them.

HP probook 450 g6 were used by all staff at my previous school and were great laptops found very little issues with them.
