I may be looking in the wrong place, but I can't find it! All I can find is the App on the Store (which is blocked). Am I missing somewhere?

 

Assuming this is what's meant, is there an easy way to deploy it? We don't have SCCM.

That's what I found - it certainly isn't built in and I'm suspecting we don't have the infrastructure to deploy it en masse.

I remember this App coming out ages ago. All of it’s features are now built into the OneDrive App afaik

OneDrive. I’ve just opened the OneDrive App on my iPhone to confirm. It can pictures of documents, whiteboards and photos and convert them into PDFs or editable documents

Was afraid you meant that. Opening the App here (PC) just seems to open my OneDrive drive and using the web link from my email does the same. Have downloaded the exe to see if this brings anything else. It is the picture -> editable document functionality that is wanted, but on the various Windows 8 and 10 laptops/tablets.

 

Gonna have to wait until Monday though; I'm outta here!

I believe Office Lens is only available through the windows store and on iOS and android. We moved to intune which allows deployment of store apps but we used to have the store allowed for students and used applocker to block and allow the apps we wanted the students to be able to use. This allowed them to browse the Microsoft store but only install what we allowed.

All new MS stuff will be store based, and it's so easy to use, just pay MS another extra amount per device!

 

It does auto crop/fix angles/ocr, and is on android, ios and metro windows.

Nope. Only thing that happens on desktop is that the Drive opens .

OfficeLens is becoming a part of Office365, in beta version of Office365 (on Android at least) you no longer need the OffceLens app installed, as its functionality is available from within the Office apps (in fact you don't even need the separate office apps installed, is just all one app).

 

I can't find a link that describes this at the moment, but maybe thats where the confusion arose?

Will have a play with 365 when I'm next at that site. Having read some of the documentation, it doesn't look too difficult to push the Lens app out to users (though I may need to find a way that doesn't involve adding each one to the list manually) but if it's coming to 365 it would be easier as none of the teachers have W10 yet.

Trying to keep track of MS's Office roadmap is where all confusion arises, they change their minds every month. Still, less complicated than Office licensing, easier to just give up and switch to LibreOffice, which is also easier to install weirdly.
