Should we be expecting a new version of Windows anytime soon?

Hey everyone

 

Would someone answer this question for me.

I looked online and Windows 10 support ends in 2025, and I'm wondering what are we supposed to do after that. Ditch Windows, or are Microsoft going to release a new operating system such as the rumoured Windows 11?

I remember reading a comment somewhere Windows as a Service.

 

There hasnt been a new version of Windows for a long time. I think they'll drop the 10 from the name and just release 2 updates a year.

Not sure where you got the 2025 date from?

 

The support lifecycle page says each September feature update will be supported for 30 months from release date, and each March feature update for 18 months from release date.

 

There's also a table of individual versions - 1909 end of service for Education is 2022.

 

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2015 EOL is 2025, 2016 is 2026 and 2019 is 2029.

So, they will just keep releasing feature updates.

1909 has been fairly seamless so far. I have in on about 10 PCs.

Windows 10 is supposed to be the "last" version of Windows, i.e. moving to service based and it will remain updated rather than superceded.

The '10' is to Windows what the 'X' is/was to Mac.

Microsoft probably wants most people to eventually move over to Windows 10X, but it's going to take a very long time to do that. More than a decade perhaps?

Windows 10 updates twice a year and each version has it's own support end date. The idea is that you update to a newer version of Windows 10 before your version reaches end of support and that cycle repeats.

Windows 10 will just be called windows generically on future devices. there are no plans for 11 12 13 etc. it will just be updated builds.
