Shutdown PC's on schedule

What is the best way to shutdown pcs remotely every day/week.

 

I know i could do it with scheduled tasks using the shutdown command but i would rather some software that i could create groups from and then set differenet schedules for different groups. If it did nice reports about savings as well that would be good.

 

Happy to pay a small amount but dont want to spend loads.

Free alternative - create GPO's with scheduled tasks in for each time. Assign GPOs to computer root and use item- level targeting to target groups of computers either by adding computers to a group or adding PC names and then relevant task will created on the pcs.

We run various policies with this I should add.

 

PC's turn off at logon prompt if unused for ten minutes.

Students are logged off if they are aware for their PC for over an hour.

Staff PC's are put in sleep mode if they are left unattended for a period of time, same for admin PC's with different time lengths for each.

 

Software pays for itself each year in electricity savings.

We use https://www.pdq.com/ deploy and inventory, have got a shutdown task that is scheduled and looks at specific groups of computers we want to shutdown on a daily basis then another task to turn them on in the morning

Not the only thing I use Impero for, just a feature I make use of!

Of course - but it’s an expensive answer to this question [emoji6]

 

I bet it’s be fairly easy to knock something up in Visual Studio that uses Powershell (not like this

) that can do this job.

Use to use EmcoSoftware shutdown software initially has some issues where it randomly stopped shutting down machines on occasions which lead to SLT complained about computers being left on.

 

Since we have Impero I switched to using this as I could set a couple of shutdown options.

 

16:00 shutdown computers not in use.

16:30 shutdown IT Suites/LRC

18:00 Log off all remaining computers and shutdown - building closed by this time.

 

Yes - expensive option to shut down computers but it works and keeps SLT happy

I used to set a scheduled batch file to shutdown the machines one by one. I now have a GPO assigned to all clients with a scheduled task so they all shut down at the same time every night and it's free.

I'm using SysInternals PSShutdown with a serverside scheduled task...

 

It works for me on 3 different sites.
