Just renovating a house and wondering what alarm system you would put in. I want something which links to my phone. If anything ties into google home then that would be even better.

When I fed his cats for him whist he was away, he gave me a token to put on the keys that would auto dearm the alarm when I walked into his house & rearmed it when I left. Thought was pretty niffy - If I didn't already have an alarm in my house I'd look into it.

Pyronix is what I have and seems to be the choice of system around here for various installers. I've got a 6 year old wireless version as I fitted it after I had done the work in the house but just put a wired version in at my brothers which I much prefer. Mine has a SIM card in and texts me if it goes off, there are fobs available to set and unset too but my Brothers will be connected to their cloud and use an app which can be used for alerting and also setting and unsetting. The actual panel is nice and alot easier to use than mine.

 

Speaking to my mate who installed it you can link outputs for other things i.e. switching lights on as you arrive home and unset it, they also have something to do with Hikvision so can link with your CCTV if you have it as another output, driveway gates/garage doors, the list seemed quite endless. I'm yet to get it online due to not having internet installed yet but there is a web interface too I believe. You can also get smoke detectors plus various other bits to go with.

 

He installs them commercially with no issues either. They seem quite good systems from what I've seen and even considered upgrading mine but really I don't need to.

What is the anti hacking security like on these internet connected alarms

I have recently installed a Texecom Premier Elite (wired version) I like it. You can buy a texecom connect for it and it will link to your phone.

 

The texecom connect can also link to smart plugs and CCTV systems.

 

So if the PIR goes off in the kitchen it will display the camera closest to the kitchen.

 

I like the system, very easy to install and program. It is a professional system and is used in businesses and banks. However they are a good price.

 

They also sell a wireless version but the PIRs are more expensive.

 

You can also link your smoke alarms to the system.

+1 for somfy. Works well and you can use ifttt to help link things.

 

The internal cameras are great with their privacy shutter. And I’ve never had a problem with batteries - not changed any yet.

 

I do have slight concerns with the cloud based link / and it’s one down a couple of times where I didn’t have a fob to disarm ‘internally’. Always have a fob handy.

 

The rest of time it takes care of itself with arming / disarming using my geo location thermostat and ifttt

Just to say ring is releasing a pack next month for the UK. You can pay £8 for extra stuff including mobile sim use in case the broadband is out. I would see what reviews are like as it may go on Black Friday deal.

The ring system has been out in the US for ages and reviews are extremely positive. It’s also very good value for money.

Yeah - they launched it in the USA in July 2018 - it's had lots and lots of positive reviews online since. This is the same product now being launched in the UK.

It says that some of the bits come with a 3v Lithium Battery

 

Does anyone know how it gets charged? Does it need to be connected to a cable or not - it kinda looks totally wireless - but if it has a battery it will need charging at some point

Guessing that’s for the pir units/contacts etc

 

My previous wireless alarms had 2-3 year battery life on the standard cr123s batteries and then they flashed an led when low to be replaced (no charging etc)

 

Only the home unit was hard wired

I presume you get a 'lost contact' message - but then maybe it would be possible to get round the system by blocking the system????

Normally that’d trigger the tamper alarm, same as if you tried to remove the battery without putting it into service mode etc

 

Thus the change it before it runs out etc, think of it like a yearly service etc
