Multiple OneNote printers

Anyone seen this problem: multiple OneNote printers, like 20 - we seen it on few computers already. We do not map this printer for anyone, I think it comes from Office 2010

That's odd, never seen so many copies of it. If you don't use it in your print mapping GPO just create a task to Delete "OneNote" and it will remove it on all that it applies to.

I saw something similar the other day. It made me chuckle but it when I was logged on as a test account.

 

Will have to check to see if I get the problem again. I can't say I paid much attention to it to be honest.

Wow I've not seen that one but I've got in my group policies to automatically remove any printer called Onenote (or Fax or any of the others!).

I have implemented GPO that should remove OneNote printer, but to the computers OU, maybe I should place it in user OU -as printers still appearing.

Yes mine are in User Configuration deleting the following.

 

Send To OneNote 16

Fax

Microsoft Print to PDF

Hello, did anyone find a solution to this? I can remove the 20+ OneNote printers manually, but powershell get-printers returns nothing, I cant find anything in the registry.

Any ideas for a a powershell solution?

So far only solution was to uninstall OneNote, our new build will not have it.

Just about to create my own post about this issue but see there is already one created within this year. Any fix yet? I created a delete local printer GPO but its having little effect. See attached GPO.

Do they come back if you remote them all? How many computers are effected?

We mainly see it on staff computers. Our new build has OneNote entirely removed, so maybe it will stop it. Scrips had little to no effect

I have easily several hundred computers onsite but cant tell you how many have the issue. As others have suggested the GPO has little impact. Using Powershell only seems to remove for the current logged on user. Which suggests the OneNote printer is installed each time a user logs on.

 

Cant just remove OneNote application as OneNote for Classroom is used by several teachers/students. Not fully moved across to Teams yet.

 

Not tested to see if I remove them manually one at a time to see if they reappear yet though. No body got time for that lol!

Hi,

I've tried various things and I've found that removing registry entries in the following keys removes them but you'll need to use psexec for the key ending PRINTENUM ( or change ownership of the key) , however I've only carried this out on one of our test laptops and feel we shouldn't need to go this far to remove these printers.

 

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SWD\PRINTENUM

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

 

The powershell commands which "worked" for us are :-

 

Get-ChildItem -path HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print -Recurse |where { $_.Name -like '*OneNote for Windows 10'} | Remove-Item -Force

Get-ChildItem -path HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SWD\PRINTENUM -Recurse |where { $_.Name -like '*OneNote for Windows 10'} | Remove-Item -Force

 

As I say I'm not condoning this method as I don't know enough about any other effects.

 

We're face with a similar problem of various computers from a few hundred having this issue and I'm a bit loathe to go around editing registry keys so if anyone has a solutions please let me know :-)
