We are using this method (copying to default profile location on computer vs each user profile) and the settings icon also appears but not overly fussed as it doesnt open for Pupils and restricted users anyway due to GPO restrictions but is on our list to investigate how to fully remove down the line...

Anyone know if Microsoft have abandoned Windows 11SE? Can't find any Windows 11 SE devices out there at all. If not abandoned - does anyone know where there might be stock?

A number of schools have just received an e-mail from their local authority requesting that they whitelist the local authority's e-mail domain. We know that their e-mail domain has been compromised 3 times in the last 18 months (distribution lists) which resulted in phishing attacks on schools. We've raised concerns about doing this and won't unless explicitly instructed to do so but what are your thoughts?

A parent at one of our schools has requested to remove a pupil's details from all electronic systems in the school. The child is still a pupil at the school but they have asked to remove (not disable) any and all information regarding the pupil from Class Dojo, Google GSuite, LGfL, and even the school's MIS (Integris G2). Also, we are getting conflicting information regarding consent. Do schools have to get explicit consent to sync data to Google GSuite and Office 365? Thanks in advance.

What I'm really struggling with is that this seems like a really easy problem to fix. The current process is; 1: Pull data from MIS 2: Create local file with data from MIS 3: Push data to MLS (or other) All they would need to do is to add a 4th step; 4: Delete local file with data from MIS This seems like a no brainer, at least until they work out how to encrypt the data. We had a case recently where a school secretary installed an exporter (not for MLS) on her office computer which would be storing exactly the same data on the C: drive of an unrestricted computer. i.e. any other member of staff could have browsed to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Groupcall\Xporter\(online software manufacturer)" and gained a copy of all pupil data without entering so much as a password.
-
When I asked them about this they said that they assume that the server it's installed on is fairly secure and that access to that folder is restricted. This is quite an assumption and there's no need for this to be installed on the server - it could be on a workstation in which case, how secure would it be then. I'm not aware of any specific warning messages or documentation where it informs users of this which is even more worrying. I'm tempted to disable these tasks. I've just discovered that the MyConcern Groupcall does the same thing but only pulls changed data. @RLR - do you know if the MLS export only pulls changed data or does it pull the whole data set every time? - - - Updated - - - It does seem to be a lot of information for no real reason.
-
I've just set up the Groupcall Xporter at one of our schools for MLS Connect and noticed that as part of the export process, Groupcall creates two files (MIStoMLS.xml and students.csv) which it stores in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Groupcall\Xporter\MLS" folder. These files contain the complete data for all pupils in the school and their guardians in plain text format. I've contacted Groupcall and they said this is how it is designed to work and that they are looking at making the exported data encrypted to comply with GDPR. Just thought that you all should know that this is the case and to try to gauge opinion. I'm not particularly comfortable having this scheduled task running if it's going to save all of the pupil data on the c: drive of the server.

LGfL Cachepilot - login
InspireICT replied to InspireICT's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Nevermind, we're in! -
Can anyone remember how to login to an LGfL Cachepilot to change the IP Address/Subnet? I haven't had to look at one of these for so long I can't remember how to get into it
-
Thanks for this, I originally misunderstood what you wrote but it works perfectly - thanks.

Sadly, this is all controlled by the local authority - we have no control over it but we can make requests. I'm hoping someone will know what the url is that iPads access to download configurations and I can asked the LA to allow that URL to be accessed without the proxy. Lightspeed have suggested that it's an Apple server that it contacts and not a Lightspeed server.
-
But this only seems to allow me to enrol the devices in unsupervised mode. When I set the devices up at home, I turn it on, join it to the wireless, it recognises that it is a managed iPad and downloads it's configuration including Apps, iOS updates, screen layouts etc. At school I have to run through the whole iPad setup process, i.e. enable/disable siri, enable/disable location services, etc etc etc, I then have to go to settings, input the proxy server, navigate to the lsmdm.com website to download the config settings to enrol the device. Once this is donw, it shows up as an unsupervised device with very few applied restrictions, no ability to update iOS etc etc. If I could just get the devices to communicate without the proxy server, I'd be all sorted.
-
Also, once the iPad is joined to the wireless and the proxy has been entered, I can enrol it in MDM. I just can't do it the DEP way, i.e. on first boot.
-
This is where it gets a bit tricky. I've been led to believe from an Apple Specialist that rather than being a port issue it is a filtering problem which would make sense as the school uses a proxy server for all internet traffic (through the LA internet) which, of course, you can't input when you first connect to the wireless. I was hoping that it may have been trying to connect with a website (e.g. dep.apple.com) which I could try to get the LA to unblock without using the proxy.
-
I'm trying to setup some iPads on our MDM solution with Apple School Manager. Apple School Manager and Lightspeed MDM are connected perfectly and when I turn on a new iPad it says it has a configuration to download which it does perfectly but only when I connect the iPad on my home network. In school, it fails saying, "The configuration for your iPad could not be downloaded from ......" "Could not connect to the server" I'm assuming this is a filtering/firewall issue. Any ideas?
