here is a vbscript to automate this.

just insert the netbios domain name and the script is ready to go.

 

The user need to be logged out of sims when run.

Now perhaps SIMS can catch up. I'm still totally amazed that after all this time they can fall foul of the space in a path name problem, I thought all Windows programmer knew of the potential problem by now.

2) The Document Management Server does not work for some users after applying the May Release.

 

When using SIMS .net with a non-Microsoft authenticating proxy server or a Microsoft proxy server with a user account in a different domain you may encounter problems accessing your document management server.

 

To correct this problem open Internet Explorer and go to the Connections tab. Click the LAN Settings button and in the Window that appears ensure the the “Bypass proxy server for local addresses” button is checked. Now click the Advanced button and in the Exceptions area of the new Window enter the name of your proxy server. Entries should be separated with a semi-colon. On restarting SIMS .net you should now be able to access your document management server.

What error are you getting?

Have you inserted your domain name? Its the NETBIOS domain not the DNS domain.

The script need to be run as the user on there work station.

 

I don't get an error, I just don't see any change in the path for the temp variables and SIMS doesn't register the change either.

 

I am using the correct Netbios Domain name.

 

Any further help would be more than welcomed...

Make sure the Netbios name is in CAPS.

I've got a problem with the DocumentServer and people trying to run reports. I use a proxy.pac file to redirect staff to the proxy or not depending on different circumstances. This means that I cannot add the exception the proxy server, as we don't explicitly set the proxy in LAN Connections.

 

Here is the IF statement from the pac file to return (or not) the proxy server:-

the "isInNet" string 10.250..... matches the proxy address

 

What I need to know is how SIMS is sending a request when looking for the document server, is it using IP/hostname of the SIMS server etc. etc? Or another way of editing the proxy file so that it creates the same fix as the Capita suggested solution. I'm going to keep playing as well.

I would say it was using that was defined in the Document Server Setup, which is more than likely the host name.
