Broadband Recommendation Please

Our contract is up for renewal and we have to get three quotes. We're currently with Schools Broadband and an RM school so I'll get quotes from both. Can you recommend any reliable (and cheap) others? Ideally with filtering.

 

Does anyone have experience of RM Broadband?

One of our schools in trust are on RM Broadband - mighty expensive! Moving them back to emPSN network at the end of their contract which will save the school about £7k per year! THis is for connection only.

I can attest to RM Broadband. It's never given me any issues, no downtime and the speeds are exactly what's required. The filtering that comes with it is comprehensive and intuitive, saves you having to buy a third party filtering/monitoring solution such as Lightspeed or Smoothwall.

we've never had downtime on empsn but the school on RM have but they still have additional expense of lightspeed on top of the connection costs

Exa Education came out great for us. As for service, it works. Can't say much more than that. Let's face it that's all you want.

@TMBS, I would highly recommend LGfL/TRUSTnet all day long. Superb, highly reliable service, value for money and the value added you get with some of the extra bundled features make it a brilliant option for schools. They have also completely rebuilt their WebScreen filtering platform based on Netsweeper.

So you don't already have a filtering box? SB and Exa do the cloud filtering. Not used SB but Exa's is...ok. Syncs to AD fine. Filtering mostly works, classification isn't great, lots of things in the wrong groups, bugs when going to a new site.

 

Without filtering Wave 9 were cheaper than Southern Communications, Exa, SB. hSo were cheaper for one site, more for the other. Looks like some people absorb those slight differences, which may be to your advantage.

 

Virgin Media were more than the rest, although their MIA option was slightly interesting if on a very small site.

 

Went with Exa because 1 filtering system for 2 sites was only £200/year, no one else managed to convince me there was a way to buy one subscription and have one configuration for 2 sites, without sending all traffic via one site.

 

Also 16 IPs per site is nice. Also very flat network, firewall>router>1 hop>london exa>linx>google
