maark Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Office 365 is down here - problems showing in admin centre health under exchange online and teams twitter reports it is widespread - anyone else affected?
HPlum78 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Hmmm Office 365 is down? best tell MS sharpish.....
maark Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 I think they should know by now https://twitter.com/edwinf/status/1088387556738301953
HPlum78 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 (edited) Yeah and even with the heat map I cannot see where it is saying that O365 is down? Edited January 24, 2019 by HPlum78
localzuk Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 We're seeing issues with some users accessing email. So this explains it!
john Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 If your a twitter user worth following MSFT365status as they tweet these things as well 1
maark Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 thanks for that - this made me laugh https://twitter.com/philvernon4/status/1088403348552855552
HPlum78 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I will expand as this type of statement drives me insane, if you drive a car and lets say a headlight burns out. Do you run into the house or to the closest garage and scream about your car not working and that traffic is coming to a stand still, its all bust and the worlds going to end? I would guess that's no one has ever done that nor ever will (I hope)... so why when it comes to alerting on an outage with tech do we define the scope as something that its not? If you pick up the phone right now and ring Microsoft and say that O365 is down they will tell you something different. Have any of you gone to your boss (who use O365) and said that your network is down due to an Exchange online issue? The screen grab @maark confirms my earlier comment around O365 being down, what it shows is the full scope of the issue they have an issue with Exchange and another issue with teams, that is causing connectivity issues for a subset of users. O365 is much more than Exchange and Teams..... as your car is so more than the headlight.
maark Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 email is still the most crucial part of office 365 - it has a had a major impact on our working today as I suspect it has for many businesses.
MatthewL Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Had a blip earlier but restarted Outlook and it was fine.
HPlum78 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I don't argue how essential mail services are, just trying to get us as a community/ profession to make a more accurate statement of the facts rather than a sensational headline.
synaesthesia Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 It's not sensationalist, it's just someone asking for more info after finding a little themselves; people can easily see that headline and others in the community can then think "Ah, that explains it!" due to their own difficulties. As a community, we can then narrow down whether it's all of it, bits of it etc. I've already emailed all our staff to say there are known issues so please be patient even though nothing has been reported to us.
maark Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Point taken. Last update from Microsoft at 12.57pm Current status: service degradation. We’ve determined that a subset of Domain Controller infrastructure is unresponsive, which is resulting in user connection time outs. We’re optimising connectivity to the healthy infrastructure while fixing the unhealthy Domain Controllers. So still no email - very poor resilience planning from Microsoft. This will hit business confidence in Microsoft.
HPlum78 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 (edited) @maark I was in no way directing this bug at you directly, so sorry for picking you out with the screen grab and the initator of the thread. You just happened to have been the one to post and I had just been having the same conversation internally around scoping of issues and how they are perceived by our conversations to the end users. maark Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 we have had no email from 9.15am and still down yet some nearby schools have access which is strange
HPlum78 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Nah just need to understand how the European hosted exchange environment is run. There are over 120k servers just doing the euro part and the way it's partitioned, means that you could find that it's even down to the individual mailbox so one users in your org may be fine while the user sat next to them may not be able to access their mailbox.

3s-gtech Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Just (very slightly) justifying my finished Exchange 2013-16 migration project! I’d have had hell to pay had I chosen to switch to O365 this month.
free780 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I didn't notice any downtime today. I even joined my first PC to hybrid join.
maark Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 Only some domains were affected - we had no email all day - is working now. No wonder we have problems with Microsoft Infrastructure when they can't even run their own properly.
