We moved over to Solus recently and we are going to download and deploy our first patch (24579).

Back in the day we were told to kick everybody out of Sims before doing a update/patch.

Is this still the same when using Solus?

I feel this is a stupid question but thought i'd ask anyway...... be gentle!

For Sims application updates and for best results it is best to get everyone out of Sims so send an E-mail out asking everyone to be out by a set time.

I've also found that updates don't go through if the Firewall is not off on each machine so check that.

Then as long as all machines are switched on and they have the agent installed, fire up your Sims Server, load up Solus 3 Deployment and head to the Update Library and find the patch you want to deploy. Then click Deploy.

Hi,

I use the SOLUS3 console to set up the patch to install overnight, normally 03:30. Avoids any exports and backup times for me. I also hope no one is likely to be using SIMS at that time.

Sorry to hijack your post but with patches, can they only be applied to workstations that require the patch. For example, this spring census patch, can it just be applied to the workstations that will be used to run/submit the census?

No, if you deploy it using Solus3 it will go to all of the targets that meet the criteria. So workstation patch = all workstations.

Normally Capita release a seperate download on My Account that you can run on individual workstations if you wish.

Thanks.

Looks like the Spring Return Patch is only for the database. Just wondering is it OK to run a patch update for the database when users are logged in to the system?

I would make best efforts to get people to log out of SIMS, but it should apply ok (and it's becoming harder and harder to do so). I normally run a manual database backup before applying the patch anyway (even thought Solus3 also does this) just to be on the safeside should things go wrong...

Does anyone do automatic approval and updates?

Nope and i would highly recommend against doing this.

We let the updates download automatically but we choose when we want to do our updates.

I would agree with mukz download automatically and deploy when needed. As there is always patches been released and would do it normally the week before the census just to give you some time if there are any problems to get sorted :)
