FINALLY I can look at this thread!!

 

We've be re-watching the whole thing from the start and I have been annoying my wife by refusing to watch after about 2a.m.!!

 

Therefore it has taken us over a week to get up to date

 

But WOW - people on the WWW (you know - THOSE people) have been complaining about the wind up to the battle being too long - but I thought it was brilliant - and the battle was Lord of the Rings wound up to 11

 

 

Still not sure who has survived - including the dragons - well one dragon is dead and the Night king et al are destroyed - but I will have to check to see the others who have gone

 

 

So - we are left withquite a few episodes left with the main threat destroyed and the main army badly mauled

 

Sounds like a bad concpet for the design of a series - but given history of the previous episodes the rest should be amazing - they seem to relish doing things the 'wrong' way and aceing it!

Well, there's still Cersei to deal with. And Dany doesn't seem to be keen on sharing power...

 

Also, I'm wondering whether Bran is still feeling himself. Given that he and the NK were supposed to have a connection...

Wow.. just wow. Watched it last night with the missus and all I can say is that episode was Epic!

 

I must say though although I am a major Arya fan I think she has done so much now I'm half expecting her to get killed in the coming final episodes. Really hope I am wrong on that one. But you know how it is when you really start rooting for one character above all others.

That matches my thoughts, but it's not impossible that some of the lesser-known characters are gone.

 

Re: Arya. I wonder if she will be sitting on the throne at the end, but wearing someone else's face. So she is saving Westeros by making it seem as if another character is ruling, but has no life of her own.

That’s my concern. She’s sort of fulfilled her destiny in a way. She’s so bad ass and been a favourite of mine for a while.

 

Still think the throne is Sansa’s. She has a cunning ruthlessness about her now.

I wonder whether Jon will have to kill Daenerys for some reason (she decides to do something crazy - e.g. "the children of the forest creating the White Walkers" crazy) and reluctantly take the throne.

 

The slight problem with that hypothesis is "what about the dragons?"... I've not quite figured it out yet!

Indeed, I'm rooting for Tyrion to make it through to the end, but this is GoT and anything can happen...

Jon is a Targaryen though. And you can see the dragons respond to him.

She didn't seem overly happy when she found out he was a Targaryen and the rightful air to the throne.

I'm rather skeptical that Rhaegal (assuming that Daenerys uses Drogon) would attack his "mother" and his brother dragon. While a full-on dragon fight would be very cool to see it just doesn't really make sense. They like Jon it seems, and respond to him, but would they turn on Dany for him? Doubtful.

The 3rd episode had me on the edge of my seat right until the end. Some seriously impressive direction, effects and production.

 

However, and without mentioning any spoilers, I felt the way it ended was a let down.There's an awful lot of very un-George RR Martin stuff beginning to happen!

 

Hopefully there's something I've missed and it'll make more sense in the final 3 episodes as things play out.

One thing that annoyed me about that though, why could she just fly behind them and then burn the ships, or, if they can rotate the crossbow things all the way back (but then they would have essentially been firing at their sails and masts) then attack directly from above.

 

Funny with the coffee cup placement. Makes you wonder if it was left by mistake, or if they saw it and thought "nah just leave it, the internet will have a field day with it". But I guess it answer the question. Dani prefers her caffeine over ale.

Your not the only one who was annoyed by that! not been overly happy with the last 2 eps! the next two better be amazing!

If you look though, you'll see that Dany is already holding a cup so it can't be hers! The Starbucks cup is more in front of the seat next to her, Jon trying, and failing, to stay sober?

I think Euron's fleet was a complete surprise on its own, let alone that Qyburn had outfitted them with massive anti-dragon ballistae. Dany and co didn't even know to expect them, poor Rhaegal was caught completely off guard.

Well That would be the obvious way but would she risk it with her sole remaining 'child'??

and as for attacking from above - she could only be above one at a time so the others would still have a clear shot

 

anyway - I have been having to take a lot of the seaborne stuff with several large pinches of salt for ages - I wish they would stop showing ships sailing with the sails set totally wrong - it is very annoying (especially to my wife when I point it out - I've had to stop doing that due to implied threats of something bad happening)

ship sailing forward (as they do) with triangular sails fully sheeted in but with square sails pulling directly forward quite often happens - triangular sails fully sheeted in would be for sailing close to the wind - probably at about 45 degrees to wind directions (i.e. upwind - technical term is close hauled)

 

also ships sailing with the sails set one way by the flags or people's hair showing a different wind direction

 

 

anyone would think they used CGI for things instead of building a massive fleet and waiting for the wind to be in the appropriate direction - oh any building a proper replica of all the ports

 

maybe I spent too long sailing dinghies many years ago
