I expected something like this to come up. But not from a head. I expected some IT guys to have them hidden in a server room somewhere.

All you need is admin access to hundreds of PCs and a long summer holiday...cough cough...

I should imagine most school PC's don't have a GPU.

Do you mean discrete GPU? All of our school PCs have come with (integrated) GPUs as standard for years. ;)

Another option is to add CoinHive to the school website and use the processing power of your visitors computers. Multiple NHS trusts and ICO did it, so it must be okay. :D

I don't think that the amount of hits our sites get would be much help :(.

A headmaster with enough IT skills to plug in their own computer and install their own software? And they fired him?

Good move if you ask me

I have met heads that could install their own software - I know this 'cos of having to delete the software and apps and browser extensions when they complain about how the computer 'seems slow for some reason'

and clearly do a full antivirus scan after

CLEARLY I couldn't just reimage the laptop because there was too much stuff stored in random folders everywhere

I wish I had thought of this!

What would be worse is thinking of it, doing it, losing the wallet and all details during a hardware refresh cycle when you're off sick and then watching the value of the coins you no longer have go astronomic!  :(

...I would imagine.... :(

How many headteachers have read this thinking about doing the same? haha

I'd class that as a 'dangerous level of knowledge' (anything beyond a good working knowledge of PowerPoint, Reply All, BCC, filesizes and remembering password(s)). ;)
