mavhc Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Main problem with Domain clocks is it syncing to the bios clock of the actual machine the hypervisor is running on
Alis_Klar Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Seems opinion even within Microsoft is divided on this. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/robertvi/2011/05/11/time-synchronization-and-domain-controller-vms/
fredbayker Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Yeh and setting it shouldn’t be so difficult. MS have made a right mess of it.
6Foot2 Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Reminder for 2021 that clocks go forward tomorrow at 1:00 am.

mikeprice Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 OK - a bit late to this thread But I had all mine done by 9 a.m. - I think that was 'new time' even the car that I normally forget because it is often behind the satnav now I just have to sneak into sister-in-law's kitchen and change hers without being noticed I set it to the right time a few months ago and I don;t think she has noticed yet She has 3 kids and a husband - all the kids have a partner - and it seems I am the only one that can change a kitchen clock - but they don't want me to so I have to sneak in or at some point I am going to end up having a cuppa in her kitchen and see the clock is wrong and it will spoil my whole day

hardtailstar Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I set it to the right time a few months ago and I don;t think she has noticed yet Just remove the clock,
jthompson Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I get why our oven has a clock on it, because you can set it to start or end cooking at a particular time of day, but I've no idea why they put clocks on microwaves. If I could make our microwave not display the time of day, I would: it drifts a lot and power cuts are a thing.
DeGrimmy Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I absolutely hate the clocks going forward. I know the US are thinking about staying in Daylight Savings Time now and I've seen a lot of people in the UK think that's a good idea, but from a timezone standpoint, it would annoy me no end if we were permanently GMT+1... I know I'm weird, but let's get the satisfaction of setting the clocks back to regular ol' GMT and gaining that hour again first before we consider ditching it all! 1

All for getting rid of daylight savings but would rather stick to GMT than BST year round (I don't want no gom'mit stealing my time!!) The EU were so close to abolishing daylight savings a couple of years ago, but got sidetracked dealing with the pandemic and now it looks like it's going to be forgotten. (admittedly letting each country choose it's time-zone sounded like a recipe for disaster) 1

I got some funny looks from my girlfriend and brother when I explained my viewpoint to them...
elsiegee40 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 We were expecting an electrician yesterday so I didn’t bother resetting the oven or microwave. He was ill. If he doesn’t come today I am going to have to reset them.
Andrew_C Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 TL;DR My Polski side kick says they have just changed their clocks at home for the last time... Anyone know if this is a Europe wide change? Of course, if Europe are doing it, there's no chance we...RIBBIT. 1
jthompson Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 (edited) Not sure about GMT all year round. Wouldnt that mean that the sun would come up stupidly early and summer evenings would be noticeably darker? Wouldn't having BST through winter be better than having GMT through summer? tbh the annoyance of adjusting clocks is probably trumped several times over by pragmatic arguments for safer roads and lower energy consumption when keeping DST. DST is less of a benefit at lower lattitudes, I suspect. Edited March 30, 2022 by jthompson
Rob_D Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 tbh the annoyance of adjusting clocks is probably trumped several times over by pragmatic arguments for safer roads and lower energy consumption when keeping DST. DST is less of a benefit at lower lattitudes, I suspect. On could argue that, in this era of internationalism, working from home and flexible working, the time on the clock shouldn't effect any of those things. There's also plenty of "research" pointing to the jet-lag of changing the clocks having a noticeable effect on productivity and safety.
Norphy Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 My five year old has been exhausted this week. That can be directly pinned on the clocks changing and his sleep cycle being messed up.

DST is less of a benefit at lower lattitudes, I suspect. On the flip side, having BST through winter would mean more darkness in the morning and a little bit more sunlight in the evening... Not sure which is worse, to be fair! Your argument may have changed my opinion - Perhaps changing the clocks should continue, as much as I loathe losing an hour.
HarryMonkey Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 A friend of mine once spent a few weeks in jail and was most indignant when he realised that when the clocks went back in October he was going to have to spend an extra hour in clink. 2
southhamster Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I hate our boiler clock timer. It is the most unintuitive idiotic design ever. Even changing it for DST is a total palaver.
jthompson Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 One of my pet hates is clocks which are meant to automatically adjust, but don't, leaving you with no option to manually set it. My previous car was meant to pick up the correct time through DAB or whatever, but usually didn't. Maddening.
Koldov Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 It does mess with our dogs waking times though I have to admit... they are ex-racing greyhounds we rescued and are used to getting up very, very early normally with sunrise or at least 5 a.m. After the first couple of days it seemed that we had adjusted and they hadn't, which technically meant that although they were up at 5 a.m. it was actually 6 a.m. so although we lost an hour it weirdly makes it OK... Have I got that right...? Even I'm confused... On another note we had radio controlled clocks bought for all the classroom/offices, but unfortunately due to our building very few of them actually receive the signal...
southhamster Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Isn't part of the problem with the UK MSF signal that the transmitter was moved from Rugby to Cumbria and is not that powerful?
mavhc Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 "Go to work an hour earlier so you don't have to go home in the dark" -- "What, never!" -- "ok, we'll just change time itself so you'll have to"
Andrew_C Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Isn't part of the problem with the UK MSF signal that the transmitter was moved from Rugby to Cumbria and is not that powerful? I believe that this is indeed the case; and a big problem here in the south with thick stone walls! 1
