Hi All,

First post, so apologies if there was a more appropriate forum for this.

I'm doing some research to put together a staffing proposal for my department, and would appreciate anyone willing to share the info below:

1. Org type (K-12 / Higher-Ed / etc.)

2. Number of end-user devices supported (PCs, tablets, etc.)

3. Number of technicians completely or primarily dedicated to supporting those devices; i.e. do not count a tech that performs most of their work on servers or networking

Basically I am trying to establish some sort of 'average' device to technician ratio because I think my department is understaffed. (K-12, 2000 devices, three techs to support them)

Thanks in advance for your help, and feel free to include any further information you feel might be helpful.

- Endaar

1. We're Nursery to 6th form, i.e. age 2-18.

2. About 450

3. 0 dedicated to desktop support, we have me (Systems Manager) and a Senior IT Technician and both work across servers/networking/end user devices. In the past we had 2 sites and about 1000 devices, with 4 of us, 2 dedicated to the end user devices and 2 working a mixture of everything. We don't particularly struggle with just 2 of us as since replacing most of the desktops in the last 5 years with PCs with SSDs we find there's a lot less goes wrong than used to.

1. SEN 4-19

2. 145 desktops, laptops and iPads, plus a few specialist devices here and there.

3. There's just me. I do everything (from basic stuff like password resets, plugging in VGA cables for teachers to managing the content on the website, administrating Sharepoint, network design and server installs, SCCM administration etc.)

Its got the point now where the network runs itself.

Just me for 25 hours a week, 43 weeks per year

I teach for 6 of those hours so network and devices only get me for 19 hours per week.
