[Theory]

Greetings Gameboys and Gamegirls!

 

So my younger brothers birthday is coming up, and for the past year or two he's been bugging my parents for a PC, and the best he got was a cheap laptop, he asked again this year and he got the same reply blah blah blah, I asked my parents if they genuinely aren't, and they clarified they wouldn't cause he wasn't making much sense and was asking for too much... Me being curious, asked my brother what he was actually begging my parents to get him, and he wants a Gaming PC, but that's not all! He wants it to be able to Stream videos (I assume like Twitch and whatnot), and he wants dual monitors, headset, keyboard and mouse, the essentials. Now, as a Tech, and hardcore gamer myself, I understand his pain, because I used to ask my parents the same thing, but after earning money I built my own and hey-presto, but mine is solely built on Gaming. So I decided I'd build one for him, because I understand his torment far too well (he has no idea I'm going to do this). But then I realized, I don't really know anything about streaming except the fact that I watch Twitch streamers myself. So I was wondering if any of you fellow PC Gamers have any ideas, or recommendations about what I should be looking at here, would it be somewhat the same as a Pure-gaming build, or?

 

Cost doesn't bother me too much, but I'd prefer it if we could keep it under £3000! (including peripherals)

If you want to focus on steaming you need a decent CPU, i would go with maybe a i7 6600k? or AMD 1700x, as for the rest they don't effect streaming as much so just go for a normal gaming setup, Nvidia 1070/1080 on that budget, 16gb RAM, SSD + HDD and a decent air flow case and modular PSU

 

Edit: I do the occasional stream and it hardly effects my setup, but i've been told my PC is a bit of a beast, and even more so when i put my new parts in later

 

Second edit: If you want a to be a real streamer, you have two PCs! Pro streamers have one for gaming and one for streaming, don't ask me how it's setup i do not know!

You can build a decent gaming rig these days for under £500 (without monitor etc, see Linus's Scrapyard wars) so £3000 you should be able to build a pretty powerful rig!

 

My whole setup comes to around £4500ish (including monitors etc)

Annoying brother and you buy him a £3000 rig! My limit on birthday presents is £50! I did once give him my old GTX760 for free, but when i got rid of my 980ti he didn't get that as still worth a pretty penny!

 

Saying that his whole PC bar his case is made up of my old parts, of which he had to pay for most of them!

As @DalekSec says if he wants to do proper streaming your better off with 2 rigs.

For a nice "Gaming" rig I can point you to a supplier that has kit branded by a top simulation streamer (from entry level to quite high spec inc water cooling) for a reasonable price.

For a streaming rig, you can get away with an i5 or similar processor but get a decent graphics card for the rendering and an elgato capture card is a good choice.

I stream Overwatch regulatory, never have drop outs never had any problems. I play at 4k and stream at 1920x1080.

 

Personally i think it would be stupid overspending purely for streaming, lets be frank (not turner) everyone does the same thing, think they would be an amazing streamer, do a few streams, realise no one watches you and then stop streaming all together. Build him a mid power gaming PC nothing special and £3k wise but make sure it can stream ok and you're sorted and saved yourself a pretty penny!

If it's for myself, I don't usually budget, because I'm 18, live with my parents, and have little to no responsibilities So I tend to go all out, why? What are you suggesting

It doesn't as far as i'm aware (might be wrong) but i was under the impression that is purely on the monitor output, otherwise G-sync could just be a software you use with any monitor.

 

I noticed it recently with my g-sync when it was playing up the stream stayed fine but my monitor picture was messing up!

I'm the opposite, if someone asks me to build them a PC (have done in past done about 3 or 4 for friends now) i can get all the parts for budget done and ordered with next day delivery in less than half an hour
